Can anyone explain how to do this or if there is a location to do a scan in safe mode?

BD AV PRO 2011

Version: 14.0.29.354

Engine: 7.37082

I am ressurecting this topic as BD has closed/deleted my 2 previous threads regarding the following issues. The answers BD have provided via email are unsatisfactory and do not address the issues.

I will try and keep this succinct:

(1) The files I am having problems with are normal EXCEL 2003 files with ordinary Office passwords. They are NOT archive type files.

(2) The problem is that a SCAN (eg a DEEP SYSTEM SCAN) skips all EXCEL 2003 files if they have a password – in other words they are treated as if they are an archive type file. [To illustrate the point if the scan option to “scan inside archives” is set to “NO”, BD still reports all the EXCEL files as not scanned because of password protection]

All other types of Office file with a password (eg WORD, ACCESS etc) are scanned normally.

(3) I can reproduce this problem consistently and today have also reproduced it on another machine. I have tried a clean install of BD 2011 twice and this has failed to fix the problem. I can supply BD logs and test EXCEL files if required.

(4) This issue is identical to the one I reported in November 2010 when using BD 2010. I was advised by BD support at that time to upgrade to 2011. This I did, and it did indeed rectify the problem.

(5) However this problem has now reappeared. The last full scan I did on 28 March worked normally. I suspect the issue may have been caused by recent product updates.

(6) As an associated issue, when using a contextual scan, BD reports inconsistently if an incorrect password is entered. After 3 failed attempts the BD dialogue does not report that the password is incorrect but instead reports “no threats found”. This gives the impression that the file has been scanned. It is only examination of the detailed scan log that reveals that the file has been skipped and not scanned. In my view this could be seriously misleading to the user.

lve been having this issue where the service randomly stops. its not an issue l can predict however when it happens suddenly the bitdefender 2011 internet security just suddenly reports component problems.

usually starting the virus shield through the services panel fixes the issue however it does cause slower page loading especially on images if l open more than 15 tabs after it happens until l restart.

thinking about it, could bitdefender cause system freezes when opening specific video files? as l have noticed that when bd does cause an issue its generally after lve had a few second freeze on boot of specific mkv files tho that issue only happens once per boot, and again its hit or miss to predict.

Hi,

I can't finish scans as quickly when sometimes they happen to schedule at the same time as another.

Example: full system scan set for once a week, while deep system scan scheduled for once a month, and while I have the computer idle, it's set to do full system scan after 120 minutes.

So let's say I have deep system scan running, and I have to leave the computer to go to bed. When I wake up, even if I've slept for 12 hours (which I just did), the scan STILL needs 1 more hour. Why? Because a full system scan started too, and it needed something like 31 hours to complete -.-

Is there an option in BD IS 2011 to stop scans from being started while another one is in progress?

Last night, my system conducted it's regularly scheduled scan and it warned of an issue.

Quick scan referenced urlmon.dll and Trojan.GenericKDV.939426. Bit Defender said that I needed to contact support to resolve.

I did some searches on the web and was pointed to some posts on this forum, recommending a deep system scan (which I'm doing now).

I did run a quick scan and a full scan last night and there were only ignored issues - and the system says it's protected. I'm skeptical.

I've tried to attach the log file of the scan that picked up the infected item.

The deep system scan just finished and says there are 5 ignored (password protected) objects. I've tried to attach that log as well.

I'm running 2011 Pro.

last time l noticed it l was saving quite a few images from different tabs on firefox with the Save Images addon which automates saving images from different tabs. or at least thats what happened when l last noticed the issue, other times lve downloaded something largish with IDM..

it seems pretty intermittent and usually requires a reboot to get back to normal running.. now before its suggested l much prefer to stick with the version l have installed.. mainly because compared to the last time l updated the problem with the same service was constant (tho l guess in that respect it was the 2012 version) in addition lve got under 150 days left on my licence and being poor l might have to resort to a free alternative so lm hoping to sort the issue out tho lm hoping to extend the licence given the chance rather than uninstall and reinstall virus protection constantly. that coupled with the fact that l dislike how newer stuff is more set it and forget it as l like to oversee what the programs are specifically doing and sanction things myself.

regardless, if the problem were to reoccur is there a diagnostic program be it from Bitdefender or a third party program which could give an indication of what is causing the service to start constantly using 50/100% of my CPU when it happens?

After it (BD IS 2011) blocked a trojan on a site (knew there was one making the rounds in ads these days, but first time it says it noticed something now), I thought I might as well start a deep system scan once I finished what I was doing at a time, hadn't in a while anyway... Well, oddly enough almost as soon as I started the scan, it threw up a warning that I need to upload a bunch of files, most of them its own (plus some from Winamp, BOINC and ViewPower (UPS monitoring software), all active programs at the time), to BD servers for more thorough analysis. That was quite puzzling, especially since the only option available at the bottom of the window was "Close", so selected them all but no clue what it did after I hit close. (Yes, it's in expert mode. No, it never was nor will it ever be in other modes.)

Never did that before, and I've obviously been using it for years, and if it says it uploads "unknown" files and then decides to do so for its own... What gives? Seemed to be some of the files connected to currently active processes (but obviously hardly all), because I stopped it, closed Winamp, tried again and the new list lacked all Winamp files bar the agent. But, either way, shouldn't there be some sort of progress or confirmation there, to know what it actually did?

(Otherwise, no threats whatsoever found, not even tracking cookies, as I had just cleared temporary internet files first.)

Since I see this to be a common "solution" around here:: No, not going to "upgrade" (HA!) to 2013, tried it for a while, had to disable it to still be able to use my computer after a buggy update, and had other bugs before it too, but even without bugs I'm not going there due to the lack of control. As I've been saying for years, you've been chipping away at user control since BD10 in 2006, but 2012 and 2013 really take the cake for that. Want to be able to tell it just what to do, which includes both fully visible and modifiable settings and the option to have it ask every time (get back a properly working and easily customisable "report" firewall option, get back the "prompt user for action" antivirus option so you won't end up with deleted or moved files due to a false positive as it happened before...), and of course be notified of everything it does, but the last two versions take a good chunk of that and lock it away, far more so than any previous version, so don't even start. Still have some 9 months of this, then if 2014 won't mark a return to no longer thinking your users morons who have no clue what to do with their computers I'll finally, after sticking to BD since 2004, be looking for something else. (Yeah, threatened to once or twice before, but at least the versions released then were manageable, even if with complaints, now I tried these last ones and they're definitely not.)

So, until then, what was that about?

Hello ..

I am using the BIS 2011 (fully updated on Windows 7 64bit and PC connected all the time to internet and I am using the PC as admin), I like it alot more than the 2012 or 2013 editions , faster , more pro interaction and so on however ,

When I do an antivirus scan (maual scan) whether it's deep , full system scan etc. .... I notice too many files skipped when scanning Drive C: which is the drive where Windows is installed ...I have all the settings of the scanner set to the toughest possible options , scan everything , scan within archives , no limits on file sizes , the most thourgh options I could do !...Exceptions are disabled also on any drive

1.Is this normal ?

2.How can I tell Bitdefender not to skip any file on any drive from scanning ? at least the on-demand Deep Scans ?

Thanks

PS:By the way , it even happens when I used BIS 2013 !!

So I got bitdefender because it was nicely rated, and free with a rebate. I assumed I would like a full version of an antivirus more than avira free.

I'm running Win7 Ultimate SP1, fully updated.

So the first thing bitdefender did was when I ran a program, it decided it was sketchy, and gave me a popup, and I then clicked "allow and monitor".

Now it says the action taken was "The process was granted execution rights upon user request".

The exe is now hidden, and bitdefender changed my view folder settings to not see hidden files(Neither radio box is checked, but I cannot see hidden files elsewhere on my computer).

I don't have rights to the exe, so I can't get a new version of the program(In the same directory).

I don't know the windows command line well enough to force myself to have permisions and it not be hidden, nor do I care to learn. THe only reason I"m still running windows as a main is games don't have linux support yet. But it's coming.

So my question is: Is it worth it at this point to just drop bitdefender for the next few years till I can move to xubuntu as a main OS, or is this easily fixable?

Hi.

I came to this forum while looking for a way to rid myself of a Google redirect virus which got through my BD 2011 and has resisted all attempts to remove.

So I happened to read your post on the update to BD 2013.

I followed your instructions about uninstalling 2011 and downloading 2013.

Then I came to this step:

"The installer will automatically retrieve your license key so you will not need to enter it again during the setup"

Well, that ain't happening. It wants my license key. Of course I haven't got one since I bought BD last year and don't have the key anymore. I had about 140 days left on that license.

So what do I do now?

Thanks!
