Hi

Ive installed ES File Explorer (unix to Windows file access) on an Android device (Kindle Fire). It shares a WiFi connection with my Windows 7 laptop that is protected by Bitdefender (Kindle is not protected)

I configure ES with the IP of my laptop and receive several reasons for not seeing the network shares on the laptop, including "Blocked by Firewall"

If I turn off Bitdefender Firewall the Windows shares are visible to ES.

A verbose log indicated that the offending executable was svchost.exe

Tried guessing at a rule that permitted all access for svchost to the Android IP but with no luck (****** rule 25)

Must I plug away at the verbose log to define the appropriate allow rules, or is there a simpler way

BitDefeder firewall was mysteriously blocking Chrome for no apparent reason at all. After all of the troubleshooting steps listed in this forum section for firewall, I have come to the conclusion that Chrome spawns multiple processes namely Chrome.exe - this confused BitDefender firewall software.

You will need to open task manager and kill all Chrome processes. Then you will be able to use Chrome with BitDefender firewall enabled.

I hope this helps!

I'm using BitDefender Internet Security 2011 in a windows 7, 64 bits.

About a week ago Skype updated and, ever since, everytime I try to login in skype, it gives me an error message saying "skype cannot connect".

The reason I'm posting this here, and not in a skype help forum, is because I've realised that it is BitDefender's firewall that is blocking Skype: if I deactivate the firewall, skype connects, if I reactivate it, the connection drops pretty much instantaneously.

I have tried adding Skype to the Firewall's rules, with "allow" on everything, with both the "add rule" and the problem solving functions; and setting it as an exception in the antivirus "tab", with no result whatsoever.

I can see no other solutions, so any help would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Edit: Oh, also, Windows firewall is deactivated, so no conflict there

I am currently running Bit Defender Security Suites 2011. I recently purchased an Epson WF-3540 printer. I purchased the printer so my wife and I can can print wireless throughout the house. The one thing I noticed is, it will not print until I turn off the firewall until done printing. Is there a way around this? I have forgotten about this a couple times and had multiple print copies because I kept hitting print.

I am using Windows 7 and Windows Vista on another laptop.

Thank you for the help. It gets annoying to always turn off the firewall.

So every now and then id notice my internet slow down dramatically, I have not been able to figure it out but all of a sudden simple looking websites takes forever to load, YouTube videos load at a snails pace, gaming online becomes laggy. I found that restarting my computer solved the issue temporarily somehow.

Eventually I went to the firewall settings in Bitdefender and I saw the network traffic monitor. Every time my internet is slowing down it said I’m downloading something at 190 kb/s, and it never seems to stop, something is downloading on my computer and sapping my internet. I went through every program I have and made sure automatic updates were not on, windows updater does not download updates unless I do it myself. I looked at the activity tab in firewall settings and there is no program/connection anywhere near downloading at 190 kb/s. I can’t find what’s slowing down my internet, its extremely frustrating. In windows resource monitor it also shows that I’m not downloading anything either, and there is a discrepancy between the two as far as the total amount of traffic is coming.

I don’t know which one is right but I can defiantly feel like something its taking up my bandwidth with this phantom downloading that’s happening somewhere. I don’t know how else to pinpoint it, it doesn’t show up on either windows resource manager or bitdefender, I don’t think my hard drive’s available space isn’t getting smaller either but I can feel the lag. And of course I ran scans for malware, it seems that my computer is clean. Any ideas? I’m running on Win 7 64bit.

Hello All!!

I currently have 'BitDefender Internet Security 2011'. I have been using a program called 'SwiftKit' for about 2 weeks now. Had no problem downloading it and installing it. I used it vigorously for a little over 2 weeks and when I started my computer up yesterday, it said 'BitDefender has blocked a program' or something of that nature with the error code of "Worm.Generic.424774". I am confident that this program is not a virus and whenever I try using it now, my computer cannot find the file 'SwiftKit.exe'. Apparently it was deleted. I deleted all the files under my SwiftKit folder and reinstalled. SwiftKit.exe again was not there.

I temporarily turned off my BitDefender and redownloaded it. It seemed to have worked fine because the icon was actually showing up, and it wasn't when SwiftKit.exe was not found. Now when I start the program it just shuts off and after the 2nd try it gave me the same message that it was a worm.

From my knowledge SwiftKit has not been updated since the last time I had a successful use. And even if it was, I believe I still would have been able to at least check for updates. I tried doing an exclusion with the AntiVirus and adding a program to the Firewall list to allow SwiftKit.exe to be executed.

ANY sort of suggestions and tips or words of advice would be greatly appreciated. By the way, FIRST POST!

Youtube videos keep downloading even after closing the browser (firefox and chrome, ... no problem in IE).

This problem was there even when i was using BDTS 2010 (win XP 32 bit)

Earlier i never thought this could be due to Bitdefender.

I went to safe mode

then --> start--> services.msc --> disabled the bitdefender virus shield -->

Restarted in normal mode and the problem was no more.

Then i set the bitdefender virus shield to automatic in safe mode and again restarted in normal mode and the problem persists.

Only way to stop download of the video (w/o restarting) is to disable and enable the LAN connection.

Anyone with such kind of a problem?? (This would confirm it is because of bitdefender)

Hope someone can help me. In our neighborhood we have about 10 residents on a LAN/WAN??? controlled by 1 resident. For connection I have a LAN modem which connects wirelessly to an aerial at resident 1. I have 2 computers running off the LAN Modem to a hub with one PC with Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit connected and the another one with XP SP3. Thinking incorrectly that I was setting up a home network, (which does not work between Win 7 & XP) in trying to get my 2 PC's to talk to one another I have permissions set on all drives of both machines setup for "everyone".. However I have discovered that now all 10 residents can see my 2 PC's. While I can see both PC's from either machine, (apparently via the LAN) in trying to change the permissions in Windows 7 & XP from "Everyone" to restrict access to the names of each of the 2 pcs only, I can only see "users and Administrator" on that particular machine only and cannot add a user/name of the other PC.

How can I stop the other residents from seeing my machine but allow me to see either of my machines from one another? I would naturally need to connect to the resident 1 for access to the internet but would not want him to have access to my files. Can this be done via BitdDefender Internet Security 2011?

I contacted support about this issue but have had no reply (very dissapointing for a new customer who just bought several licenses!).

With the firewall ON, transferring files to and from my server (shared drive) is very slow, at least half it's normal speed. I have tried altering every setting in the firewall options, but nothing seems to speed it up other than turning the firewall off.

I have added the server as a trusted zone, but it doesnt make any difference.

Is there a setting I am missing somewhere. Help would be greatly appreciated, as turning the firewall on and off is becoming quite tedious (and obviously is a security risk too).

Thanks

I cannot get streaming to work properly when I use BD's Firewall. I use XBMC Media Center every day so I need to get this to work.

Here's my setup...

"Server" : Win7 x64 SP1, BD 2011, windows shares for media files (video, music, photos)

"Client" : Win7 x64 SP1, MSFT Firewall & Security Essentials, XBMC to play media streamed from server

-- BD 2011 settings are default : Intrusion Detection off (I did not turn on), etc

Fully Gig Ethernet wired network, 1 switch in entire system

Symptoms...

BD Firewall is on = streaming video starts - stops - starts - stops ... rinse and repeat. This never ends.

BD Firewall is off = streaming is perfect

AVAST or MSFT Firewall on (BD not installed) = streaming is perfect

Things I have tried...

Enable Game Mode = problem remains

Added IP address of client to Firewall Network Zones, Trust Level "Allow" = problem remains

Is there a fix for this while still maintaining firewall security?

I posted the problem a while ago (under Total Security 2010) and no solution ever worked. I learned to live with this headache, but I just reformatted my laptop, install Total Sec 2011 and hope it would work now. Nothing.

I am posting the original problem because the behavior is exactly the same:

---------------------------------------------------------------

My configuration of the programs involved is as follows:

Windows 7 Professional

Cisco VPN Client 5.0.07.0290

BitDefender Total Security 2011

RealVNC Enterprise 4.5.1

- I connect from my home (192.168.1.101) to my office using Cisco VPN Client 5.0.07.0290 and that works fine. When the Cisco VPN Client connects, I get assigned a fixed IP: 192.168.25.118. There is a rule in the office firewall that only permits my connection using ports 5900 and 5800 (the ones used by RealVNC) to my desktop (10.12.0.103).

- The new network (192.168.25.0) is detected by Bitdefender and I set both networks (my internet home connection and the new office network) as FULL TRUST.

- Whenever I click the existing VNC connection the program says:

"Attempting to connect to host..."

After 20-30 seconds or so, it says:

"failed to connect: Connection timeout (10060)"

- I tried adding rules, resetting rules and adding them again, with no luck.

- So far the only way I can make everything work is completely disabling the bitdefender firewall.

CONCLUSION:

There is something wrong with the bitdefender firewall, that even having all programs involved and all IP's involved as ALLOW on any port, the VNC connection still gets blocked.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

- If I completely disable the bitdefender firewall, run the Cisco VPN (connects fine) and then run RealVNC: IT WORKS FINE.

- If I enable the bitdefender firewall, run the Cisco VPN (connects fine) and then run RealVNC: IT DOES NOT CONNECT.

- If I completely disable the bitdefender firewall, run the Cisco VPN (connects fine) and then run RealVNC: IT WORKS FINE. And after that, if I reenable the firewall, after 2-3 seconds the connected session freezes completely.

If you need any additional information, please let me know.

Waiting for an answer,

Hi,

about ten days ago I sent a report with Bit Defender Security Center in which I explained my problem: after Bit Defender Total Security 2011 (BDTS) install process I can't use my trading platform based on java on Windows Seven 32 bit because BDTS blocks the access to the server (powerdesk.fineco.it).

On the same PC I can access with ubuntu or uninstalling BDTS.

Disabling the firewall doesn't work.

Java is on granted apps.

Before BDTS I used in different periods KIS, Norton 360, Bit Defender Internet Security and Spybot S&D, but I always removed them with their proper REMOVAL TOOL.

I replicated the problem, sent the report asking for solutions but till this moment I haven't received answers.

I'd like to know if there's any progress or what I've to do.

Thanks

Hello. on a Windows 7 x64 with BitDefender 2011. My problem is that not all firewalls are compatible with Windows 7 x64 and BtiDefender is not compatible with any firewall that does anything beyond just being a firewall. I love Zone Alarm but since it has anti-spyware features there are conflicts, same with Comodo, Online Armor, Agnitum Outpost doesn't support systems with x86 process architectures. Sygate doesn't work either.

I am unhappy with Windows Firewall because it lets too many things communicate w/out my permission.

Does anyone know of a free Firewall that doesn't conflict with Windows 7 x64 and BitDefender?

BTW - The conflict is that real time protection gets disabled. This also happens with any anti-malware with realtime protection. BitDefender is great for preventing viruses and there are few false positives but it seems to not like anything else being installed on my computer that aids in security. If anyone knows of a 2nd line of defense that is compatible too (like an anti-malware program) that would be very helpful too.

Thanks!

Hello, i have a problem with my bitdefender using up all of my bandwidth. I have noticed this happening only after i download files via my download manager "flashget" or if i stream some flash videos online.

After the downloads are complete or after the online streams are complete i can close internet explorer and look at the "firewall" section in Bitdefender it states next to my "current bytes received" (860kb/sec) this is my max connection speed. I am not downloading anything, but bitdefender is showing that i am, also my connection status in Vista is showing me receiving data at my max speed. This only seems to happen after i download or stream something. If i was to turn on my pc and use bitdefender/scan my pc etc it doesnt show any bandwidth being used.

I have a bandwidth monitoring application called NetLimiter 2 PRO this shows that no bandwidth is being used. I have also checked the "Activity" tab in the firewall section on bitdefender and it shows no services using bandwidth. It is only the "bytes received" section under the "settings" tab on bitdefender firewall that is showing the bandwidth being used.

As i type this my bandwidth is being maxed out. It's not bitdefender updating, because the first time i noticed this my pc had already received over 1GB of data, but i hadnt downloaded anything that big.

After i uninstall bitdefender the bandwidth usage stops, this leads me to believe there's something going on with bitdefender.

I have purcahsed the 3 pc / 2 year subscription.

I am running windows vista 64bit.

I tried sending this help message via the bitdefender app twice but i don't think it got through, never received a reply.

Please help..
