While exploring 'BD Internet Security 2013' there occurs two questions:

How to configure in firewall settings (pls see screenshot) not an ip address (123.123.123.123) but a host name or part of a host name to be blocked (*somewhat.com)? All request to *somewhat.com shall be blocked.

And: How to backup the custom made BD settings for transferring to another computer?

Thank you for any hint,

best regards!

I have question and perhaps suggestion about the network activity monitor, because I usually use this to know which app consume my internet beside using cFos Speed

1. Can we sort all the activity based on, perhaps amount of data transferred out/in to our PC?

2. I used other antivirus and firewall before using Bitdefender and it have a nice and sleek interface for the network monitor. Can Bitdefender at least put more effort on the network monitor?

3. Perhaps more like a suggestion, could Bitdefender add Network Monitor to context menu of the systray icon?

During installation there is an option to create Software RAM Drive (Virtual RAM) on HDD to be used by Bitdefender so that the physical RAM can be used for other Windows tasks/appliactions/processes efficiently. e.g Virtual RAM can be used by Bitdefender when we run the Scan Tasks, during update or during the Bitdefender processes which can consume more resources.

Although the new version has faster scan speed than the previous ones, but it will further speed up the scan process, I think, and it will also lower the physical RAM requirement.

Antivirus 2013, clean install, first scan.

Well, I performed a scan of my system and it took some time as I wanted a thorough scan.

During the scan the software informed me that 4 threats were found or rather 4 infections. Wow, infections.

Without listing them or saying anything more or providing any option to find out.

It took some time for the scan to finish and only at the end of it was I presented with a list of......cookies!

Major threat.

I have a GUI interaction suggestion for further development:

- Please do list the threats found during scan in real time.

- Please do label minor threats different to the major ones.

Just a usability/interaction suggestion.

Thanks.

Hi, just returned to bitdefender from kaspersky and the feature that I think you should implement is a time limit. I know bitdefender can restrict the times of day that a child can access the computer, but kaspersky went one step further and allows you to set a time limit as well, so for each day that a child can access the internet they are restricted to the amount of time they can use the computer and the amount of time they can access the internet so for example;

It can be set to restrict child 1 to 2 hours computer time but just 1 hour internet time within that 2 hours which can be used anytime between say 7am and 6pm.

this is absolutely invaluable when you have kids fighting over how long each other has been on the computer as the security software will automatically cut their internet access off after 1 hour and logs them off after 2 hours.

This to me is a must as when you have one kid with adhd/autistic tendancies trying to tell them that they have had their time when they think they haven't is a nightmare, and it helps prevent kids from squabbling as they can't have more time than the other one unless you change the allowances for different ages ie under 10 = 1hour of 10 = 2hours.

Apart from missing this feature Bitdefender is top notch.

And that is why there is an option provide to Recover it. The difference between the Quarantine and this option is that in the former case, the infections are encyrpted and then stored while in the later case I think that some Sandbox type technology is used to prevent it from spreading after storage.

In the Events there is mentioned disinfected instead of delete.

I see that the new Kaspersky 2013 will be implementing this feature into their product but what bout Bitdefender?

"forced ASLR" (Address Space Layout Randomization). ASLR is already a feature of MacOS and iOS, and Windows includes a degree of ASLR. Kaspersky's forced ASLR relocates modules in memory, making it tough for the exploit to launch shell-code in step 2. It works even in Windows XP.

Feature Creep

I had used McAfee AV for 10+ years, until it got over-loaded with extraneous "features", multiple (and confusingly-named) variants and a complicated and buggy license tracking mechanism that even McAfee "support" (ha!) couldn't decipher.

So a couple of years ago, I decided to switch to a more focused product, which Bitdefender seemed to be. And until recently, it's worked fine, without being excessively intrusive.

But the "early renewal" upgrade from Bitdefender 2012 to 2013 did not go smoothly for me, and it appears that feature-creep may be a contibuting factor.

With each new release, Bitdefender seems to be getting loaded-down with features of marginal value. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come, although I fear it is.

I can understand how marketing types keep arguing for an ever-longer feature list, so the product will score well in simplistic and superficial Consumer Reports-like "product comparisons". And then, of course, there's the revenue that these added features can generate.

But Bitdefender should focus on doing its' primary job well, and leave out the extraneous stuff. Otherwise, I'm afraid that in a few years, there will be a more-focused product (and support organization) that I'll move to.

Buna ziua,

Multumesc.

I was wondering if you can add an option in the main scannig window,"SCAN NOW", to scan the pc for rootkits. It would be much easyer then go to PERSONALIZED SCAN and deploy a scan from there with custom settings.

Other antiviruses have this and it would be better if BITDEFENDER had one. It's much easyer.

You could also add a delete button for history scans from"PERSONALYZED SCAN".With the time it is going to get full and I can't remember the settings or tags of that scan so,I think it useless.Or you could just make bitdefender delete them after a while since the last utilisation.

Thank you.

The User and Paranoid Modes are not enough to meet the requirements of Advanced Users.
