Google Chrome Is Now Totally Broken After Installing Bitdefender 2012
The Chrome window opens, but I can't load web pages, settings, or anything that opens in a tab. I just get the "Aw, Snap" screen in Chrome
This seems to be related to Bitdefender 2012 as I installed it last night and now Chrome is broken today
Please let me know anything I can try to attempt to fix it...

Try to reinstall Chrome and see whats happen. If the problem is still there try to repair BitDefender (Start -All Programs -BitDefender-Repair or Remove) .0 -

Hello
Please use the stable version of Google Chrome(current version 16.0.912.63).

Please use the stable version of Google Chrome(current version 16.0.912.63).
I am having the same problem. Just uninstalled AVG today (complete uninstall and re-start) and installed BitDefender 2012 (complete with latest updates) on 64 bit Windows 7 laptop.
Chrome worked fine with AVG but not with BitDefender.
I am using latest Chrome.
I am using latest BitDefender.
Unable to delete Chrome extensions as Chrome doesn't work enough to get to extensions page.
Extremely dissapointed. Have used AVG for past 2 years and only changed to BitDefender because it was £10 cheaper. I understood both products were similar but it seems you get what you pay for after all.
Works with firefox but not with Chrome. " />0 -

Just as with the first poster, since installing BD Total Security 2012 yesterday, I have been unable to open Google Chrome (I just get the "Aw, Snap" screen).
I have tried turning of the BD Firewall and Anti-virus and the problem still persits. I have also checked the Firewall settings (already set to "Permissive") and there does not appear to be any rule blocking Chrome.exe (Internet Explorer, which I am using now, is working fine).
I have tried uninstalling Chrome and re-installing the latest version (16.0.912.75 m) and also renaming the Google Chrome "Default" folder in order to create a new profile, but that does not seem to be working. I can't disable the Chrome extensions as that requires a working Chrome browser - I just get another tab with the "Aw, Snap" page.
I am using Windows Vista HP x 64 with SP2.
BD Support - please would you help??
Thanks,
PJW-S0 -
Yes me as well, 64Bit Win7 and Latest Chrome version. 64Bit seems to be the common theme.

Hello
I have found a common cause for this issue.
Please follow the steps from here and reboot your machine:
http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=29864
Let me know if that application is still crashing.
Take care.0 -
I think this is common with unstable versions of chrome, upgrade to the newest.

Hello
Actually, all the cases that we received until now, had this software installed on the machines.
After the removing that program, Bitdefender 2012 was working good together with Google Chrome.

I would like to add an issue about Chrome + Bitdefender.
I have recently installed Bitdefender on a new Windows 7 64 bit laptop. Everything has worked with Bitdefender quite well other than the search adviser when using Chrome and Google's search engine. In this case the search adviser does not show up in the search results. When using other search engines in Chrome it works fine. In Internet Explorer all of the search engines utilize the search adviser.
Now this is not a huge issue. Nothing like what I have seen in these forums. I just thought that I would put it out there especially in this topic. My communications with Christian have been a bit redundant but I have no idea what the process of troubleshooting these things are so I can at least say this, that we have been trying many angles and still working on the issue. I have not had too much time between responses which is good because I can imagine that with all the issues with Bitdefender 2012 that he is very busy.
Luckily I have not had any major issues however if they had been I would definitely be very frustrated. This is not the case so I am not here to complain but maybe add to the censuse that Bitdefender obviously needs some serious patch work. Hopefully this will be supplied in a timely fashion and complete an almost great anti-virus suite.
Thank you Christian for your help.0 -
Hi Donald
We have managed to solve this via email.
The issue was cause by the fact that Google was loaded via HTTPS and in the product the Scan SSL option was not enabled.
Thank you for your patience and for the cooperation with BitDefender team.

Hello
In that case, the issue has caused by Trusteer Rapport that was causing crashes.
If you have that software installed, please follow the steps from here:

What I tell if you cannot Install Google chrome, then I would like to suggest you to go with Firefox Aurora or Firefox Nightly.

Hello
That is really not recommended. Beta product or Developers editions are sometimes very unstable.
We recommend you to use only the Stable/Final versions.
Have a great day.0 -
Hi,
I am using BitDefender Total Security 2012 with multiple browsers (and multiple versions of them) with no problems / or conflicts with BD:
Internet Explorer (32 & 64 bit) with latest fixes (forced to use it to connect from home to secure portal at work)
Firefox 10.0.2 (Release Channel) - mainly for on-line banking (Trusteer Rapport works on this level of Firefox).
Firefox 13.0a1 (Nightly Update channel) - no issues with BD (Trusteer Rapport does not work)
Chrome Canary 19.0.1058.0 - no issues with BD (Trusteer Rapport does not work)
Chrome Beta 18.0.1025.45 - no issues with BD (Trusteer Rapport does not work)
I mostly use Chrome Canary.
OS is Win 7 SP1 64 BIT - up to date with fixes & drivers.
I read about a lot of issues with various browsers and BD on the forms here - but I have not had ANY issues related to BD. When I did have performance (slow down) issues with the browsers it turned out that Windows firewall service had somehow been turned back on after I installed BD. This was not obvious as Action Center showed BD Firewall ON and Windows Firewall OFF - but another poster advised me to check a few things when I had posted about another issue. That thread can be found here: Strange Behaviour Post .
Check it out ...
Cheers

Christian,
I think you misunderstood my post - I do not have any problems - even with Trusteer Rapport. I verified with them if the issues with BD were fixed and they confirmed that they were. The browers that it does not run in for me are as yet unsupported (bleeding edge releases).
I just wanted to point out that browser issues are not necessarily being caused by BD. I have had no browser issues that were caused by BD.
One other thing - I am running the as yet not GA level of Java - Java 7. Maybe this is a factor in my lack of problems.
Cheers

Hi Ross
I mentioned that topic for users that have those symptoms.
We also released a product update in .34 and Trusteer released a new build, but some users still use the older versions and in some cases, Google Chrome just crashes.
That's why we need to check if this is caused by that software. If not, it could be malware related.
Take care.0 -
Christian,
Trusteer does not run in my Chrome browsers (Beta & Canary) - not supported by Trusteer. BD does run in them without issue.
Trusteer does run with BD in IE 9 and Firefox 10.0.2 - Release Channel. No problems with Firefox. I rarely use IE so I have not really verified them together.
Browser Performance
I did encounter a performance issue with all my browsers in January - not loading properly, pages not loading (reload later messages), major slowdowns, etc. This was shortly after I installed BD and changed ISP (and broadband speed). Turned out to be a DNS issue. The cable modem installed by the ISP runs some kind of DNS name server and it was configuring the connections (DHCP) with its address for DNS. On the PC's in our home network I manually configured the DNS server addresses (used the 2 Google public DNS servers first followed by the 2 actual DNS servers from the ISP that the modem was configured to use). Problems resolved and performance restored - especially on search results pages being checked by BD scanner. I never contacted the ISP about the issue - I just went through the configuration as set by the ISP during install and set it more to my preferences (also closed the "holes" that they had left open - I can do my own troubleshooting).
Conclusion - for those experiencing Browser issues with BD - check DNS set-up. BD does put a heavier load on DNS lookups. If necessary use Wireshark and check the traffic flow and DNS response time on port 53.
Cheers
Ross

Hi Ross
Even if those versions or Chrome(Beta & Canary) are not supported by that publisher, the drivers for Rapport are still loaded during Windows startup and could cause that situation in some specific environments.
Thank you for your feedback. Have a great weekend!0 -
Hi Christian,
Quick Update - seems like there was an update to Rapport last week. Totally broke Chrome Beta - will not load ANY pages now - just the "Aw Snap". I have opened an issue with Trusteer and posted on the Chrome bug forum. Trusteer has acknowledged it is an issue and they are investigating.
Other browsers are working great as per the earlier post. It has not caused any issues with BitDefender.
Have another issue now with latest Radeon drivers - will start a new thread for that.
Have a Great Weekend

Hello Ross
For those that need to uninstall Rapport, they have released an uninstall tool.
Check it out:

Just do this,
