Many Problems With Bdis 2012
I installed BDIS 2012 and have tried re-installs 5 times. I can't get the firewall to remain active. According to the BDIS "Home" page, it says everything is turned on and active. When I go to the settings it says the "Firewall" is turned off. If I turn it on, when I reboot, it has turned itself "Off".
If I check the settings for "Antivirus", it says that "Active Virus Control" is turned "Off". If I click on the control, it flashes on, but reverts to "Off". It won't stay on.
The "Home" page says that "Autopilot" is turned on, but the icon in the tray does not show it as being active. If I click the "Autopilot" "Off" then "On" the icon in the tray shows Autopilot turned "On".
If I change my "On-access Scanning" settings to "Custom", after a reboot, they revert to the old settings.
I don't know which to believe, the "Home" page or the "Settings" pages. I don't trust a thing it tells me.
I gave up on trying to get BDAV 2011 fixed, and hoped that maybe BDIS 2012 would have resolved the old problems. Well, the old problems are fixed, but the new problems are worse.
I'll wait a couple of months before I try it again. Maybe you will come up with fixes by then.
Thanks,
Leighton

Chris,
I've also noticed occasional multiple instances of pchooklaunch32.exe running. That can't be normal.

Chris,
Can't add entries in "Antivirus|Exclusions|Processes" to exclude a process.

Chris,
Can't add entries in "Antivirus|Exclusions|Processes" to exclude a process. I added a file to be excluded, and when I tried to exclude the process, was unable to add ANY process exclusions.

Chris,
FYI, I went into MSCONFIG and disabled all unnecessary boot items except for Sound, Keyboard and Mouse. Got the exact same results. That makes me feel better that there isn't a conflict with my other applications.

I also used your BDuninstaller and completely uninstalled then re-installed BDIS. I was able to add exclusions and was able to enable "Active virus control". Everything looked fine until I rebooted. The exclusions were gone, and I couldn't enable "Active virus control". Isn't that controlled by "pchooklaunch32" & "pchooklaunch64". I was seeing a problem with them before.

Chris,
I checked "Device manager" and had two entries for "Bitdefender AVC HV". One valid, and one with a "!". Per another post regarding this problem, I uninstalled the one with a "!" and rebooted and the previously good one disappeared.
I'm becoming quite frustrated with this product.

Best thing to do is UNINSTALL this rubbish and put something else on your system, i uninstalled this crap after only a few hours, now happily using KIS 2012 again problem free!0 -

Christian,
Is there any activity going on here? It appears that during the initial installation phase, all of the modules involved in BDIS are turned on and running. As soon as I reboot, the registry seems to have lost track of where the modules and associated dll's are located.
It looks like the antivirus is partially working, and as far as I can tell, the firewall is not running. I would expect to see something in "Services" or "Task Manager" indicating something about a firewall. There is nothing. When I look at the settings for the firewall, and check the "Application Rules", the only apps listed are the ones first executed while it was freshly installed (before a reboot).
Please let me know what is going on. I don't know if I'm protected or not. At this rate, I'd feel safer running "Microsoft Security Essentials" and the "Windows Firewall".
Thanks,
Leighton

Are you guys making any progress? I can't be the only one with this problem.
I'm also curious as to what happened to "bdupd.dll". It sounds like it is for updates. During the initial install, it is installed in "Antivirus_000_001" directory. After the first update to the database and the concomitant reboot, it disappears completely. There is no "bdupd.dll" anywhere.
Please, let's start the new year off with a little success story. It would be nice if all of the features actually worked.
Thanks,

Hi Leighton
You will receive an email by tomorrow. We are currently investigating the current situation and we have taken in consideration all the new data received from you.

It seems that the "BDUpd.dll" issue has been resolved, but I still have the following issues:
Can't keep "Intrusion Detection System" turned on. After reboot, it resets to "OFF".
Can't turn on "Active Virus Control" at all. If I click on it, it flashes "ON" then reverts to "OFF".
Can't set "Exclusions", "Excluded Processes" at all.
I see that there is someone else seeing the same issues (Nick Somebody). So I'm not the only one.
I'm looking forward to the email from your support people.

Reminds me of a few tears back same problem same response...Still NO solution to the many recurring problems with BD.
One solution that WORKS every time get RID of it all together.
Tech support from BD is pathetic.
When will BD LEARN they have a heap of JUNK!!0 -
Finally, we have success. Per instructions from development, I ran the "Kaspersky Uninstaller". Of course, if BDIS had worked in the first place, I wouldn't have tried Kaspersky. In any case, the uninstaller rendered my PC useless (no mouse). I tried to do a restore, but Windows claimed that my antivirus software was preventing me from restoring. My only recourse was a complete reinstall of Windows. I'm still trying to reinstall all of the applications (over 100) that were lost after the Windows installation.
At last, I finally have a functional BDIS running on my PC (so far). It's a shame that I had to resort to a complete Windows install in order to make the product (BDIS) work. " />
I trust that an adjustment will be made to my license to make up for the lost month where BDIS was unusable.
Thanks,
Leighton0 -
Can you share what fixed it?

What I understand is that a software was conflicting with Bitdefender. A format /re installation of windows fixed the problem.

Can you share what fixed it?
I would like to say that it was "Software Support" that solved the problem, but I can't. They gave me the usual run-around of "Try reinstalling", "Make sure nothing is conflicting with it", ad nauseum. I reinstalled at least 30 times and repaired 20 times.
While the software (BDIS) is undoubtedly good, (it would have to be in order to be #1 rated year after year), it is not fault-tolerant. I had just reinstalled Windows in October when I switched from [x86] to Windows 7 [x64]. Whatever was wrong with my environment, BDIS was the only program having difficulty running within it. It appears that BDIS needs a near-perfect environment in which to run. Hence the comment that it is not fault-tolerant.
In spite of the problems, I would recommend the product to a friend. I would have to warn them of the potential issues they might have to contend with. Back up everything, gather up all of the installers you need to rebuild your library of installed applications and cross your fingers. Be prepared to wipe out everything and reinstall Windows.
It is possible to make the software work. It’s just likely to be a horrendous experience, ultimately worth the effort.
Thanks,
Leighton0 -
I honestly don't use BitDefender because I have already one which is the Avast, actually in using Avast for almost 2 years Avast is getting worsen, my personal computer use to shutdown every now and then. So, I am planning to have another one, my friend told me before about this BitDefender and that's why I stumble across here and know some information about it.

Let's be fair guys ... all software products have issues - that is why there are software support people on board. i'll probably get shot down in flames for this - but give them a chance!
0 -
There are issues and ISSUES. Read through the trouble reports and understand the impact these "issues" have on those experiencing them.
Examples including losing everything on your PC and reinstalling from scratch, performing many recommended time consuming procedures with no positive results, slow response to problems, no simple and coherent way for users to easily find out what issues have been reported and the status (solved [and in what software version or patch], open, or user hallucination), finding out you have been running without protection.
There are catastrophic ISSUES. A mis-formatted screen, a spelling problem, perhaps a broken link to a reference; those are issues. If not flames, certainly you should walk across some hot coals.0 -

Don't you think they have had a chance 100 times over. Over the past 3 - 4 years that I know of they still give you the usual run around, that's the only thing they succeed in.
Same problems re-occur year in year out ...Different Day same old **** as the saying goes.
I suggest that they get a stable program that works ...or get a suppoort team that KNOWS what they should be doing.. Beeside giving you the run around that is.0 -

In a bizarre way, I can understand re-installing. The installer you get when you download BDIS is actually just a downloader of the real (cloud) installer. There may have been a fix incorporated for another problem that accidentally resolves your problem. It's not really problem-solving by intent. It's problem-solving by serendipity. If the problem goes away, the customer shuts up. End of story. If not... try reinstalling (Take two aspirin and call me in the morning).
I'll really never know why it works now. It may have been something in my environment that was resolved by reinstalling Windows, -or- I just got lucky and the latest version of the installer had incorporated the fix. They'll never tell. I started programming in 1978. When I had a bug, I admitted it and resolved it in less than a day. Minimal customer impact. That's why I don't understand why some of the issues go on for months at a time. Of course, my software only affected 500 people within the corporation on similar mainframes.
Oh well, c'est la vie,
Leighton0 -

We keep getting all the apologizes, this should fix it excuses from BD however what good is that get a better result from throwing a couple of pain killers inside the PC.
You should treat the SOURCE of the PROBLEM not just a BANDAID stuck on & hope it goes away.
With the numerous problems we all have with BD why Oh!! why can not they accept they have a huge problem with the program & come up with a major patch.
Are they frightened they may lose face better that than customers.
I know of 17 people that have abandoned this heap of rubbish & poor Tech support, What tech support I ask????
Look at the freebie AV programs DO THEY HAVE the same error NO... They might not have all the Bells & Whistles but they don't have to keep re-installing the program either.
I agree with gts1983 comments.
My wife has changed to Kaspersky & loves it. " />0 -

Why not fix a overall problem?

I'm glad you have learned your lesson. BD is a problematic software! Unless you have all the time in the world to tackle their problems that never get fixed!
Any other vendor out there is way better than this crap.
Their engineer is either lacking or they don't know how to solve the problem or not awake!
Change the word AWAKE to SLEEP and Bitdefender Total Security to Bitdefender Total Garbage!
This is defenite UNacceptable for a paid version!
I switch to other vendor and NEVER look back to install from this vendor again! I'll try it in MILLION years (Maybe).0 -
