Vista Black Screen After Booting
This is a problem dating back at least to August 2011 (posted by username 'tf44', post Aug 27 2011, 10:59 PM ). Vista SP2 gets to stage just before Win welcome screen then hangs with a black screen and mouse pointer, and is definitely a BD 2012 problem. Can start in Safe mode w/ network and do a restore; this allows reboot but with 'BD services unavailable'. A temporary fix is achieved by uninstall/install, but only until you make the mistake of powering off your machine. Can someone please do something as it is a problem still affecting people after at least 6 months into BD 2012 launch!

Hi
In order to be able to properly identify the causes for the reported situation and find a solution we will need to investigate a bit deeper.
Please follow the steps below and send us the result:
a ) Go to this page
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx and download the autoruns file.
b ) Extract the contents of the downloaded file and run the 'autoruns.exe' file;
c ) Wait for the list to be filled with all the processes and then make sure that you have the Everything tab selected in the upper part;
d ) Click on the Disk icon right under File and chose any location folder on your computer;
e ) Save the file with a specific name (your name, computer name, a random name, which one you want) and then send me a PM with it.
If the file is too big to attach it, upload it on
or
and send me a PM with the download link.
We will analyze the information you sent and then reply with a possible solution in the shortest time.
Have a nice day.0 -

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. I've uninstalled BD, but I can install it again to reproduce the problem, if more data is needed.

I also have the same problem when I changed to Vista Black. I just guess that BitDefender doesn't work properly with it.

Hello
Bitdefender is compatible with Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
In order to further investigate this issue, you need to send me some log files:
Please follow the steps explained in the article below and send me via PM the generated log file:

I tried a re-install of BD. After the install I did an update of BD - just as I did the previous two times that I've installed it. I've tried rebooting the computer/turning it off, but I've not experienced any problems with the black Vista screen. This time, however, I have not enabled Intrusion Detection System. I did that the previous two times. Maybe the enabling of IDS has got something to do with the black screen in Vista?0 -
Hello
Thank you for your feedback.
I don't think this is related to Intrusion Detection System. Last time did you set it to Aggressive?
Thank you.0 -
Hey,
What makes you so sure this is a software problem? I would recommend running a full RAM and then HDD test. Get a boot disc which can run the RAM test for you (takes about 10 mins) and follow with a HDD test. In many cases running these two tests can save you hours of pain
Just my 0.02c from experience..
Thanks!

Hi.
The problem was not solved, unfortunately. I'm still getting a black Vista screen after installing and rebooting. When I log in, the black screen appears. I can press ctrl-alt-del to get the task manager, so something is alive. But the computer never starts properly up.
I'm not sure it's a software problem. However, I can successfully reboot to safe mode, which indicates that some drivers/services are causing the error. If I uninstall BD from safe mode and restart Windows to normal mode, then the problem disappears. My PC runs perfectly again. I've tried this install/uninstall process four times now. Each time the outcome is the same: black Windows screen after install, no problems with Windows after uninstall of BD.0 -
Do you happen to have custom windows themes / custom login screens (on the affected computers)?

Seems lots of people have the problem, I am also waiting for the solution for about 3 weeks.....
Hope BD soon solve the problem....(or payback to customers?)0 -
I have the same black screen with pointer on my 64-bit vista SP2. I will attach the requested file starting with mustang69conv...
Let me know when you get it.
Much thanks!0 -
Exactly the same problem with Vista Business.
Happened 5 times now; 18/3, 19/3, 21/3, 22/3 and 25/3
Issue started a few weeks ago and a requires Safe Mode start and System Restore to clear the issue, but only temporary. After a few days it happens again and requires Safe Mode start followed by System Restore again.
Common issue as reflected in the Event Viewer, Windows Logs, System is Error Event ID 7026 listing a number or start up drivers that have failed.
The common Bitdefender driver listed for all Event ID 7026 is: bdselfpr
Am currently running the BD Support tools and will send the files as instructed.0 -
