Bitdefender 10 Free - Is It Free Or Evaluation?
Greeting all,
I was using Free version 8 (no real-time guard - just scanning) for quite a while already
I do remember that no questions were asked when I was downloading v8.
Now there is Free version 10.
When I go to free Download section v8 still listed but the link brings you to the page with Free version 10.
The link for downloading free v10 brings you to Evaluation page with a form to submit info.
May I ask you to answer the following questions:
1) What does it mean - "free Evaluation"?
Probably, it is a silly Q but... sorry . Submitting e-mail by itself is not a problem. Just curious what the "Evaluation part" will bring compare to how I am using v8 free
2) In case the above resolved. Does an uninstall of v8-free required prior to v10-free installation?
Thanks in advance
My regards

Hello SwampCat,
And welcome to the BitDefender forum.
1) What does it mean - "free Evaluation"?

BitDefender v10 Free is free to use. It's not an evaluation version.
The product comes with a pre-activated license code that is valid for one year. After it expires, you can contact LiveAssistance for a new free-of-charge key.
That page saying that this is an evaluation version must be a mistake. I will report this.
2) In case the above resolved. Does an uninstall of v8-free required prior to v10-free installation?
Yes, you need to uninstall first BDv8. You can use the Uninstall Tool.

Hi Cris,
Thanks a lot for replying and for welcoming.
Good and clear answers.
One small question about Uninstall Tool though.
Is it recommended just to run it without trying Add/Remove or as it's often happening in many cases - "run IF supplied uninstaller fails"?
To name a few : Nero Cleanup or (God forbid!) Symantec ...grrrr " />
Thanks for your time

Hello SwampCat
You should run the uninstaller immediately. Then all registry entries and some shared files will also be deleted what doesn't happen when you follow the normal procedure.

....You should run the uninstaller immediately...
Hi Niels,
Thanks for reply.
I hope that by uninstaller you mean that Uninstall Tool, which Cris suggested.
I cannot do it immediately today..busy...
But I'll do that immediately tomorrow.
Not sure that strictly speaking the term "immediately" applicable in such scenario ...but ...
Thanks again

Hello SwampCat
Yes I meant the specific uninstall tool. Sorry for the confusion. With normal procedure I meant removing it via add/remove software. Glad that I could help you.
Best regards

Hi Cris and Niels,
I was “little bit” busy, so couldn’t reply to thank you after using Uninstall Tool you suggested.
Now I have BitDefender 10 free installed.
I must say that it was a slight problem – Bitdefender 8 entry was left in Add/Remove and some other small leftovers in registry. But eventually I got rid of those.
At the same time the functioning of BD 10 raises some questions.
Sure I will rather start a new thread.
So, finally for this thread: thanks again
and hope to see you in… how I will call it?.. Let’s say:
“BitDefender 10 free and bdfsdrv.sys”
