Block Applications

Options

Hi,

Till today I was using Kaspersky Internet Security just few hours ago I activated BDIS 2013. My requirement is I need to block an application and all it's sub applications for eg. blocking all application belonging to Adobe. I checked the setting but in that what I can find was adding a single exe file at a time but couldn't see blocking whole group or whole folder..where can I find that option??

Also, I find options are far less then KIS although BDIS is about 280MB and KIS is just <70MB am I missing anything?

Is there any Expert mode or something where I can see more options??

Regards,

    Hi,

Unfortunately, there is neither an option for blocking groups nor a more Expert mode than "User mode", except "Paranoid mode" on Firewall settings.

More or total control is also our requirement but this persistence on "Silent" way of BD products even for advanced users, perhaps, makes many of them saying good bye.

That's very disappointing. Now I'm getting angry on myself that why I moved to BD by just reading reviews on Internet without trying myself. I read a lot that BD is good BD is best but I can't understand how so?? It's package size is huge as compared to KIS but options and customizations are far less that it. I'd give my one year license to someone and get me one KIS license again.

    Great cry little wool! <img class=" />

I agree with you. Bitdefender should provide control over their product for Advanced Users.

Yeah, having such huge footprints with huge lack of customization, but also with maximum detection rates.

KIS is no less behind! Frankly speaking I've been using KIS for 4-5 years and I don't remember any problem from virus I've ever faced in presence of KIS! This time I thought to give a try to BD after reading a lot about it on Internet but after installing I can say only one line "Great cry little wool".

But one thing came to my mind why don't I use Kaspersky for firewall and BD for antivirus as it has better detection rate(according to others)?? For at least one year as I have one year license of BD already. What you suggest?

There may be conflicts on the driver level.

    NO WAY.

Using two different AV/Firewall products is strictly NOT recommended.

Even if you disable BD Firewall (or KaspAV), some drivers are still running making your PC almost useless and perhaps you could not repair it w/o format.

I would suggest you to keep BD for a while and see what you can do with its (annoying and poor) firewall.

Try the BD suite for awhile...otherwise, I suppose you could downgrade to the AV+ version and run a 3rd party firewall for more of its user controls and options. Yet, that can be a little finicky in finding the right one, with a proper configuration as to not cause conflicts with BD.

The AV testing labs usually use the Suite versions, yet considering they normally don't test the firewall component separately in and of itself, it still can make up a part of the Suites total security and rating: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=155154

Just sharing my experience, comparing two antivirus is not an easy task. There are some local infections and some are network intrusions by network malwares. Bitdefender has maximum detection rates and good in handling local infections but lack in ability to handle network intrusions in a proper way. It is just my experience regarding Bitdefender. Since we can't discuss product comparison here, otherwise Rampant can explained in much better and technical way.

If you'll keep it, be very careful, because on installation of some suites (e.g. Adobe), BD Firewall creates "Allow" rules without any prompt even with "Paranoid mode" ON.

This issue has been reported here, and we are still waiting for an official response...

Your sharing your experience and knowledge, is always appreciated :)

Confirmed also in AV-Comparatives assessment of Bitdefender, was their concerns of a remote desktop ability they discovered and discussed in the 2012 review. Yours, Rampant's and werby's work (threads, posts) in this area, though not always acknowledged or replied to, hopefully are still considered by BD Techs concerning the firewall component.

You can talk about them in their respective threads.

We know that apparently they are not acknowledge us properly, but they should reply why such illogical features are implemented and why they ignore the Advanced Users at all.

I finally put both of them on test, together..and surprisingly without any conflict..I disabled anti-virus of KIS and firewall of BD so far working good, didn't even noticed any lag in system's performance; may be the trick worked!! <img class=" />

Though it worked but still not happy as I was better with KIS only but not I can't waste a license, so will see how log I can bear with this.. ^_^

P.S.- If anyone has KIS license I can exchange with that.. :P

We'll see how long your little experiment lasts, i.e. in having 2 formidable security solutions running side by side without any system slow downs, freezes or BSOD...we'll see ;)

Hopefully the soon to be released 2014 beta will have some of the feature requests that have been suggested, and some that have been acknowledged as escalated (notifications/prompt for action, more user control of the firewall) will be included.
