Rtfm Or General Blonde

RTFM or general blonde, <img class=" />

Hey All,

I am new to bitdefender and its functions. Since about three months I decided to finaly buy the right to use an award winning AV suite. Well, I have no complaints about what it does. No virusses or whatever found their way to my system. So what is there to complain I hear you asking.

Well, since I installed the suite it nags me every day that autoscan is turned off and that the automatic update is turned off. And everyday I turn them back on. This starts to bug me a bit and despite a search on the internet I can't find where I have to turn these features on so they stay on for ever until I tell them to switch off.

I hope one of you isn't as fair haired and can help me with this issue.

Thanks in advance for your answers guys.

Sincerely,

Len

  • Hi. How about if you just turn on auto scan in hours that you will not use your computer. That should be a work around. smile2.png

  • Hey doncht,

Thanks for answering me and I am really puzzled by your reply. I will try your suggestion but I don't understand why this will work, especially for the daily updates.

    Thanks for helping me though.

    Sincerely,

    Len

    Hey Georgia,

Thanks for the answer and sorry for my late response.

Indeed I use Win 8 and I tried the advice as in the link you provided. I will have to wait and see if this has the desired effect.

    Thanks for helping me.

  • Hey Georgia,

I did like suggested in the provided link.

For two days it scanned and updated automatically. Yesterday however, I switched on the anti spam module.

And today, the automatic update switch was turned of again.

    Strange behaviour don't you think?

    Sincerely,

    Hi Len :)

Just curious, what version of BD are you running, TS, IS 2013, or BD W8?

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • Also, to add to my above question, did you previously have another AV solution installed, and removed all it's remnants? Bitdefender can get a little glitchie if there are any leftovers. If so, you would need to uninstall Bitdefender and use the uninstall tool, use the previous AVs uninstall tool, manually look for remnants, and reinstall Bitdefender, again, if that was the case.

  • Hey Scott,

I was using the security essentials from Microsoft before I used BD hwever, I m using a recently fresh installed version of Win 8 now. Where only BD was installed.

Like the links that Georgia provided suggested, I used the uninstall / remove tool before I reinstalled my newly downloaded version of Bitdefender Internet Security 2013.

  • Hi Len,

Thank you for your time and answering my questions, as previous leftovers of another AV solution have been know to give BD a bit of a fit..glitches. So we can rule that out. That information you provided may help others, or Georgia, to maybe figure this one out.

    Thanks again :)

  • I am really puzzled by the behaveour of BD now. Since 2 days it downloads new updates and scans automatically.

It looks like it behaves like it should now.

This unpredictable behaveour makes me feel a bit insecure about my safety measures.

Does anyone have a plausible explanation for this?

And now, as I start my system there is the warning again that an issue reguires my attention and, hey presto, the automatic update feature and the autoscan is turned off again.

Please, anyone, can you help me with this issue?

    TIA

OK Guys, you had your laughs....... and I owe you an explanation.

No I am no blonde but I didn't read the manual fully either so RTFM is in place.

It suddenly struck me, why don't I GOOGLE "laptop mode bitdefender".

    Guess what showed up.

    Laptop Mode

Laptop Mode is especially designed for laptop and notebook users. Its purpose is to minimize Bitdefender's impact on power consumption while these devices are running on battery. When Bitdefender operates in Laptop Mode, the Auto Scan and Auto Update features are turned off, as they require more system resources and, implicitly, increase power consumption.

Bitdefender detects when your laptop has switched to battery power and it automatically enters Laptop Mode. Likewise, Bitdefender automatically exits Laptop Mode, when it detects the laptop is no longer running on battery.

So, I am glad it is normal behaveour of BD.

My only criticism is that the popups and the error messages didn't mention that these were a result of laptop mode to save the batteries of my laptop.

Thanks for the support so far guys.

    Sincerely,

    Len
