[fixed in Bitdefender 2015] Game Mode Popup

Hello,

I'm on Windows 8.1 using Total Security 17.25.0.1074. I like running games in windowed full screen mode, allowing me to easily switch between applications. I like how the game mode switches on and off depending on whether the game is in focus, but I fail to understand why Bitdefender deems it necessary to notify me of game mode activation each and every time the game regains focus. Every. ######. Time.

Now a quick google search reveals this has been an issue on this very forum for at least 3 years. All people - myself included - want, is an option to deactivate the popup notification. We like the game mode, but we don't like being spammed. We really only want the popup gone. You are welcome to make it opt-out if you like. But please, please with sugar on top, make it possible to deactivate the popup notification.

Now I realize there is the possible "solution" of deactivating automatic game mode and enabling it by hand every time a game is started. I kind of hope that it's accepted to be self-explanatory why this is not really a fitting substitute for disabling the popup though.

So please, another time, add an option to disable the popup. It's been requested many many times on this very forum.

  • Okay, I seem to have chosen the wrong subforum for this post. Could a mod move this to the appropriate section, please?

  • I posted on another subforum some weeks ago, but got zero response whatsoever. Hence, another post in a different location.

  • Hello sacre,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

We are aware of the requests on disabling the Game Mode notification and they have already been forwarded to our developers.

  • Bump indeed.

The notification/overlay causes a 'frames per second' drop also for the time it's visible.

  • Hello sacre,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I've just recently installed Bitdefender on my own personal machine, since I had a multiple PC license.

(It was usually used on non-gaming machines).

This response is truly terrible, because from my research. <img class=" />

    A. This issue has already been reported on multiple versions of Bitdefender.

    B. The response back then was also an acknowledgement that the 'developers' know about it.

    C. Bitdefender has done nothing whatsoever to address this request, besides a token "wait for the next release".

I would like to know why the marketing department has not requested this feature be added yet.

Developers won't add anything that the marketing and product managers don't approve of.

This 'feature' is marketed towards gamers and yet at the same time, you ignore our pleas for the option to disable it.

This is annoying enough to me that I've already uninstalled Bitdefender and will go back to having to maintain two different AV licenses.

  • I'd really like to see this added, because I have to disable automatic game mode completely to retain functionality of my mouse software. The popup notification (which was actually hidden by the games) was stealing focus for just a second, which causes Logitech's LGS software to think the game was minmized/alt-tabbed and returns to it's default mouse config. The result is that any customization for the mouse in that game is completely non-fuctional.

The only fix for that problem now is to disable BD's game mode, or set LGS to lock the game profile any time the game .exe is running. The latter isn't preferred as I commonly alt-tab to use other programs and don't want my game profile's sensitivity/DPI settings or custom button config.

    Hello everyone,

We have good news for you.

Starting with Bitdefender 2015, there will be no popups when entering Game Mode because the automatic switch of profiles (Game, Movie) is done in Autopilot mode. The program will no longer switch to User Mode when Game Mode is ON, therefore everything will be done silently.

We want to thank you for your constant feedback on this matter and for helping us to improve our products.

Hope you have a fantastic week ahead!

  • So if I choose to use paranoid firewall mode, I will be unable to use Autopilot and thus still receive the popup notification? Are you serious?

    Hello sacre,

    Thank you for your question.

The discussion here focuses on Game Mode notifications, not Paranoid Mode ones.

When you choose to have Paranoid Mode active, then you expect to receive many alerts. As long as Paranoid Mode is on, an alert will be displayed prompting you for action every time an application tries to connect to the internet or it tries to perform an action considered suspicious by the Intrusion Detection System or the Active Virus Control

    Have a nice day.
