Firefox Crashes - Is Uninstalling Bitdefender Only Option?

I have been using BitDefender Antivirus for a couple of years now. All our PC's at home have this. Awesome product so far...

A few days ago Firefox started crashing regularly. After hours of trouble shooting we traced it to BitDefender.

I uninstalled Bitdefender, restarted PC and it no longer crashed. I then re-installed BitDefender. For a couple of days it was fine.

And now it has started to crash firefox again.

How can I fix this ?? This makes Firefox virtually unusable.

Firefox Version: 37.0.1

Bit Defender: 1.0.21.1099

System: Win 7, x64

I am surprised to read you have this problem. I have the same version of Firefox and Bitdefender (I am sure very many other users too), but in a Windows 8 system. Your linked discussion had no answer to FredMcD's inquires:

Does this happen when you open a new tab using a link, ...

    What is your about:newtab setting?

Is the problem there even when the browser.newtab.url setting is about:blank (see How do I turn the New Tab page off?)?

You may want to Contact Customer Care so they look at this problem.

I edited the newTab config to - about:blank. It does not crash.

What actually is the problem ?

I cannot answer that exactly. I only have a suspicion regarding the tiles in your new tab page. There may be something within them or the process of making them that is blocked by Bitdefender, thus Firefox crashes. I imagine you probably want the regular new tab page with the tiles.

As far as I know Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition reports files it blocks and actions it makes through its user interface within the LOGS. However, this is not the case when it blocks web traffic. Normally, a blocked page is simply reported on the browser with a big warning and a chance to bypass the protection. But sometimes some web content is filtered without a warning (like ad-blocking software does) when it comes from a third party. However it is possible to find out what happened by examining the file gzserv.log in the antivirus software folder. The excluded material can be found in gzserv.log by looking at the lines that say:

... HTTPAV Cloud link infected ...

In this file you may find a hidden reference to a false positive that is causing your problem. If you find any please report it to Bitdefender Labs.

However I may be pointing to the wrong direction because tile content is probably cached. A simple experiment could be to check if your problem with the regular new tab page (with tiles) happens when disconnected to the Internet. But I am not sure about the significance of the result of that experiment.

I found a false positive in your log file (2015/04/14 19:39:25):

    http;//d1warraxuf7xh1.cloudfront.net/wp-content/fontscustom/freshman_2-webfont.woff

Bitdefender labels the link as a malware site, however the linked file is found clean by Bitdefender, go figure.* I already submitted it to Bitdefender Labs. Usually they fix these problems within three (3) days. However, this may or may not be the cause of your problem.

*I checked with virustotal and the file is found clean by all engines.

I reimaged my PC meanwhile. Hope this does not come back.

Oddly though i am unable to access the forum from home. None of the forums or even threads open. (I dont have the error with me now, will try and post it later).

I can access from my mobile and office PC. However from home PC even after reimaging I get an error. This really surprised me.
