Cannot Update Total Security 2015 For Windows 10

I have done everything I could find on this topic.

I downloaded the uninstaller and it does an uninstall and then keeps on doing the uninstall over and over until I close it down.

I downloaded http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...r_av_19_64b.exe as suggested for my 64bit windows 10 installation and ran it numerous times. The download files runs til the green check mark appears. The scanning files runs to different points (like 32%, 67%) and then the installation program closes itself and disappears from task manager.

This is extremely frustrating for a program that I have paid for and been using for the past 3 years.

What do I need to do to install Bitdefender? I also have a subscription to McAfee and it loads properly when I do load it. I do uninstall McAfee before I attempt to load Bitdefender.

  • Hiya and welcome to the forums,

Run the uninstaller in Windows safe mode - uninstaller found here - http://www.bitdefender.com/site/view/unins...sumer_paid.html

Reboot your computer back in normal mode and download Bitdefender using the on-line installation kit found here - http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=58943 (looks from your link you have the correct one)-

Let us know if you have more success this time.

I ran the Uninstaller from safe mode and it ran and had a red x in the status "Executing Additional Tools". It did this in regular windows mode too. Again it finished the uninstall and then kept running it again and again until I closed it down.

I then returned to normal windows mode and ran the installation file. The first time downloaded files had the green check. It got to 87% in scanning files and then disappeared. I ran it a second time and it got to 91% in scanning files and then again disappeared.

    What now?

  • You should now contact support and ask for their advice and help. There are various ways to contact support at the bottom left of this page -

This happened to me exactly the same, but in my case, I was not aware that it was going to take 3-4 hours to upgrade, and when I noticed (after completing the windows 10 upgrade) that Bitdefender was NOT running, I panicked and proceeded to "repair the OLD version" which is UN-compatible with windows 10 and this procedure damaged some windows files, so I ran sfc /scannow in a command with admin privileges and it was not able to repair the problems, so I reverted to windows 8.1 from a Macrium image and started the whole process of upgrading to Win 10 and this time I waited for the 3-4 hours to upgrade Bitdefender and it upgraded fine, so you should run sfc /scannow in the cmd.exe with admin privileges and maybe in your case it will repair the problems and then run the BD upgrade.

Hi...The BD Uninstaller will run thru numerous cycles before it finishes and asks for a reboot. In my case, when I uninstalled BD before installing Windows 10, it took 6 or 7 cycles before it actually finished. Perhaps you cancelled the uninstall too soon and that is why it will not install properly. As far as the red x beside additional tools, that seems to be quite normal and does not affect the outcome. Try running the uninstaller again and then reinstall BD. Good luck.

  • So I let the uninstaller run until it asked me to reboot the PC. The PC rebooted and installed the program. It asked for my license key and I entered it. It tells me that my key is for a different product. Does Bitdefender expect everyone who upgrades to windows 10 to buy a new subscription even though I already have a subscription to total security 2015?

  • Your 2015 license key will still work, assuming you installed the correct program - BD IS>BD IS, BD TS>BD TS etc. Did you contact support as I suggested earlier in the thread?

  • I have done another uninstall and installed TS 2015. The installation now takes my license key. What it doesn't take is my username (my email address) and password in order to activate the product. If I go to the bitdefender webpage the same username and password get me into my bitdefender. What could the problem be now?

When I put in a support ticket as suggested and when it was suggested support has not bothered to answer my ticket.

  • *Grumbles about BD Support* You should have had an automated reply at least with a ticket number.

If it has taken your license key, does it now show the number of days you have left on it in the bottom left hand corner of the GUI?
