the Version u see in Deinstaller is irrelevant. It is okay as it is.

So what the is wrong with Windows if it does not even know what version it is running?

Or did BD forget to change the version number in the update?

I am in the UK and run Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. The version number I am seeing is 21.0.22.1050

you hang on, onto a date or version! the important thing is the version u see when u click right mouse button on info - then u see the most recent version of BD. Look do the workaround i offered. But do not stump more on BD - they do a good job. They are programmers and nobody is perfect.

And their Software is really the best. I do not know why they do a mess out of it. Never met such a good Antivir. They really do a good Antivir and the best, maybe, But then those easy bugs, WHY. This is what i ask myself. I would not jump to another security software so easily, i would stay on BD. Just stay on BD! I would give BD a chance. I will not jump to another Antivir product.

Guys, I have sad news .... an hour or so ago BTS got an update, which was set on automatic in my computer and guess what ... the firewall adapters are gone again !

I therefore totally reinstalled Bitdefender and guess again ... the adapters returned !  And this time I immediatly switched off automatic update ! I really hope BD is resolving this issue soon, because this is not a very good demonstration of their skills.

And one other thing: I am using Bitdefender too on computers and smartfones of my children (I have 4 of them, all 23+ yo) and with different machines: apple, android and windows based machines and on different versions also, in total 16 machines are running with BTS because I have bought a Family Pack. Because of this large installed base I want to be sure BTS is doing the things right, especially considering ransomware protection. I have seen one attack being successful in the past and I never want to have that happening again, so that is one of the reasons I switched to BTS Family Pack. But sadly enough I am now still getting less and even lesser confident by the day that they are competent enough because of this strange behaviour of BTS and the long time it takes them to repair this firewall adapter issue.

And there is one more thing: I am using a central bitdefender account where I manage BTS on all the computers: when I reinstall through that account I sometimes get the English version and sometimes the Dutch version, but I need/want the Dutch version of course. I have not figured out why I cannot control the language version when asking for a new installation through the Central Bitdefender Account. I know this is of course another topic, but is adds up in the things that concerns me.

In the attachment you see the adpaters I can see now in BTS after a full reinstallation cycle. And as I said, I switched off the automatic updates/downloads (what in fact I certainly do NOT like at all!). I also added screens with the versions that are installed after the total reinstallation. This time it seems that that version issue is resolved: the right version numbers appear in the in Windows installed programs list.

And  .. sorry SebastianDI ... I think they should do a better job or at least communicate more with us or here on the forum about what they are actually doing about it. In fact we can do some beta testing if they like as far as I am concerned.

  • I understand u.

But if u use my method the adapter comes back again, am i right?

let me see if my adapters gone...no mine still there...

so if the adapters gone, always try the CMD method i mentioned before.

Have a nice weekend and i am sure they provide us a solution "soon" ;=)

  • I have had Avast Internet Security for 5-years with no issues on all of my computers. Because of a recent price increase I decided to purchase Bitdefender Total Security 2017 for 5-PC's based on good reviews. Now I am unable to print from any of my computers or discover any devices on my network because my wireless Adapter is missing from Bitdefender Firewall on all of my computers running 64-bit Professional Windows 10 and 64-bit Professional Windows 7. When I disable the BTS 2017 Firewall I am able to print and discover all of my network devices. I opened a BTS 2017 Ticket yesterday and Bitdefender has not replied with a fix for this problem known to BTS 2017 for at least 4-days reported here by Sent2Devel. BTS 2017 has only sent an automated reply; Thank you for contacting Bitdefender Customer Care. This is an automated reply to confirm that we have received your request, and that we are working on resolving your issue(s) as promptly as possible. Your assigned ticket number is 2017031800060001. We advise that you keep this reference number in a safe place for further tracking/follow-up. Regards, Bitdefender Customer Care Team.

    Hi Sabastian,

I tried your method to see if it would either save the settings after I repaired BD or bring the back after the update to the "repair" takes them away with a normal reboot. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with my WiFi set up on a Windows 10 Pro laptop. Will have to use the Windows firewall till this is sorted out.

    Very disheartened....

  • IMHO BitDefender owes everybody an extension of their license due to the amount of time it's taking to fix this. Not to mention the aggravation factor.

  • Update, sort of...

Fortunately I can connect through the Ethernet connection, I then turn off the WiFi so only my wired connection shows up in Network and Sharing center. After a series or normal reboots without resetting/repairing BD, I get my Network adapter showing up again. The Ethernet adapter to be specific. Not sure is it has been stated in the previous posts but this issue seems to be only related to WiFi adapter connections.....

Not of any use if your only connection option is WiFi though.

Guys i have an idea. Try this:

Open CMD command box as admin. Then type in:

    shutdown.exe /r /t 0

Maybe this helps. I think it works after Windows restarted this way....seems it helped for my BD Total Security 2017...

    ;=)

Cheers. And enough bout blaming BD, those guys do their best i think to solve the probs.

This works for me. Everything on my network now shows up and the adapters in BD does too. Tried a normal restart after to see if it would stick and everything is still good. Tried the thing about making a shortcut which got me nowhere, so I just made a little notepad with the instructions in case I'll need it again. Thanks :D

  • UPDATE: Windows 10 Professional 64-bit BTS 2017 uninstall and clean install now showing my wireless adapter in firewall.

  • UPDATE 2: Windows 10 Professional 64-bit after uninstall and clean install of BTS 2017 version 21.0.24.54 and now update has removed my wireless Adapter from the BTS 2017 firewall and I am unable to print nor discover network devices.

The very first post on page 1 of this thread has the work-arounds listed by Sorin G. Option 2 is what I am using. After you repair, or re-install you will have version 21.0.23.1101. This is the last version where the firewall works correctly showing the adapters. If you allow BD to update, then you will get the new version 21.0.24.54 which has the adapter problem and you will no longer be able to access network resources. Be sure to follow Sorin G's instructions exactly, you need to make sure you do not select the "update program" box or you will get version .54 and then you will have to repair again. You must do this everytime BD prompts you for an update until BD gets a newer version later than .54 which fixes this issue. Until then, you will have to deal with multiple BD prompts for updates from time-to-time.

The shutdown /r /t 0 did not work for me. Neither does the option 3 work-around presented by Sorin G.

Ever used the command AFTER u got the updates? OMG.....then mimimi. do a shortcut if the adapter does not work! As mentioned above by Joachim. Sometimes i think people are just honks. The adapter does work, but it is the software, that prevents it to work. So the percentage is high, that it has to do with hiberfil from windows.

    shutdown.exe /r /t 0

normally i must get paid from Bitdefender. (and that would be a shame).

Yes, but the thing updates automatically and absolutely will not do what it is told.

My PC is taking more than 3 minutes to boot up and BitDefender is again not managing my Firewall and screaming that I am Unprotected.

    Event Viewer says

Bitdefender Firewall unregistered from Windows Firewall. Windows Firewall is now controlling the filtering for BootTimeRuleCategory, StealthRuleCategory, FirewallRuleCategory.

But Windows allows Remote Access by default!

I tried the instructions for Base Filtering Engine.

If the service is in the list, check its status. If the status reads Stopped, right-click on it and select Properties. Then make sure the startup type is set to Automatic, then click on Start.

Base Filtering Engine was already there and it was already set to Automatic.

I did not much like the idea of setting Full Control for EVERYONE in

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\services\\BFE\\, anyway.

The whole point of web security is so that everyone does NOT have access to my machine, never mind Full Control. And this was NEVER needed before the recent, broken build.

So it was not working properly, so I eventually managed to turn off Defender and Windows Firewall and shut down.

The machine Booted up really fast and BitDefender was working properly again and had registered with Windows Firewall. I cannot change any settings in Windows Firewall and Event Viewer says BD is controlling it.

This worked fine for a few hours. Then, after booting up the next day, after some more BD updates, I am back to the same situation with DB unregistered from Windows Firewall and Windows Firewall is managing itself.

But worse is that I cannot shut the computer down. It plays the log off music and says it is waiting for Explorer to shut the computer down and then just hangs with my wallpaper and mouse cursor.

And BD says that EXPLORER is a potentially malicious program!

So is BD stopping Explorer from shutting my PC down?

I just searched the forum and there was a 2 person thread in 2015 with NO REPLY from DB at all

So I did the REPAIR yet again, and it is still taking 3 minutes to boot up and BD is still not registering with the Firewall, and I still cannot shut down or restart without pressing the off button after 6 minutes.

So I did that registry hack, and I could RESTART but I still cannot Shutdown. It just hangs. I have not updated yet (the malware is updating now), and BD is no longer reporting Explorer as a malicious program.

What can be done, or is it time to completely uninstall BD and move on to a more reliable protection program, such as Windows Defender and Windows Firewall?

How can I determine what version of Bitdefender is installed on my system?  There is no About box or other way to determine the version I'm running in the User Interface from what I see.

  • Wasted hours troubleshooting my router/NAS, only to be led by a random google search to this thread. In retrospect it should have been obvious to me what the cause was. I have 2 windows machines and a mac connecting to the NAS. The mac was unaffected (no AV). This is the second time in 2 months where a major problem with this software has happened and not a single notification from the vendor to let customers know they screwed up.

Well, I went through the whole BD repair thing again and made sure Autopilot was off and it was set to Prompt before downloading, and when the dialogue box finally popped up, it said THERE ARE NO VIRUS SIGNATURE UPDATES.

So the last few weeks people have had this problem and they have not even released any new antivirus signatures anyway?

    Or what?

And BD Firewall will still not enable, despite everything in Services being correct and doing that registry hack.

And Windows is not connecting to the event Notification service since these problems with BD.

I have not tried shutting my PC down yet.

  • I did have the same problem. adapter empty and no printing possible with print server. Only a (herstellen, dutch) repair did solve the problem. Command option shown earlier did not work and changing wifi network options did not do anything.

    Hi All,

Just discovered an awesome temp fix, better than what listed on page 1...

I was installing Malewarebytes on my wife's computer and discovered she was running the latest bitdefender defintions and had full access to all network devices... Turns out she is still rocking Bitdefender 2016, LOL! Anyways, checked her downloads folder and sure enough, bit defender 2016 exe was there.

So maybe give that a try or maybe bit defender can make 2016 ver available on page 1 temporarily until this is fixed.  I also have a copy but I will wait for a mod direction on uploading that or not.

    Hello,

Thank you for all of your reports.

Our devs are currently working on a fix for this issue.

The fix will be deployed via automatic updates.

Has there been any progress on this?  Your recommendations in another thread instructed us to disable automatic updates, so how will we know when this is addressed?

  • Hello all posters,

I have new message from BD support since friday 17/3/2017 with some ETA - thank God... You can read it below ...

    Hello,

We would like to take advantage of this opportunity to convey our apologies in regards to the situation created.

The firewall bug will be fixed with the next Bitdefender product update which will be released in about 4 days. Keep in mind that internal testing must be done before validating the fix via update to ensure it does not cause side effects. Rest assured that we will contact you as soon as the product update comes out.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Kindest regards,

    Georgiana CIURESCU

    Senior Technical Support Engineer

Although I was somewhat dubious, as a last resort I tried the " shutdown.exe /r /t 0" suggestion and it seems to have worked for me and survives system reboots. I have Bitdefender 21.0.24.54, I can see all my adapters and have access to my network shares. Current virus signatures are 7872475/Engine 7.70243, so I think the updates are working too. The only other change in the meanwhile was a major Windows 10 update last Tuesday.

My post was only for information ... I feel the same frustration from this situation. I am testing 30 day-trial security solution from Kasp....ky Lab, now.

  • After pratting around all day, like 8 hours, I got the damned thing working again and Firewall was enabled and I had Autopilot OFF and updates set to PROMPT BEFORE DOWNLOADING.

And I just noticed that the damned thing RECONFIGURED ITSELF AGAIN and set Autopilot to ON and was in Silent mode!

Sorry, BD, this product is a heap of junk. It is nothing but MALWARE at the moment.

If my Firewall is broken and it takes nearly 4 minutes to restart the machine and will not shut down AGAIN, that's the end of you.

  • 17:50 UK Time, Sun 19/03/2017, after waiting an absolute AGE I managed to log in to an MMO and Firewall turned itself OFF and BD screams in red that I am unprotected.

But at least it let me turn in on again and stayed on. I loaded the game in a window, so I could see the toolbar icon change.

All the files connected with the game are listed in the rules.

  • Hello admin,

you are not able to provide any ETA but you are very proficient in deleting of posts .... Great job !!! Well done ... This behavior helps BD to be better & better ... :D

    your still waiting customer

  • Hello guys,

I'm facing the same problem and just before to find this topic, i went like crazy to know the reason why my NAS server and my wireless printers can't work. Waiting for the new version upgrade with the firewall adapters fixed.

All we are waiting and BD is still silent and deleting posts ... :D That is super situation ...

  • The third attempt at repairing, turning Autopilot off and setting to Notify Before Downloading (Suggestion 2 from Sorin G) seems to be working now, although I am not using the PC very much. But I can restart and shut down with no problem and BD is managing the Firewall, but it has taken it's settings from Windows Firewall's default settings.

I always thought DB replaced Windows Firewall, not just "managed" it? There were several General Rules and a few other unneeded things that I had to block.

    Cheers!

  • Update: (could not read all posts, sorry if repeated)

If my laptop is connected to wired LAN + WiFi, I always see adapters

However if I connected only to WiFi, no adapters are shown.

Please pass this info to the developers. Hope it will help them....

  • Hello,

A update was release to address the issue reported in this thread.

Please note that the update doesn't change the build number from 21.0.24.54.

You will get a prompt to reboot the machine after the update has finished.

  • I think I'll wait and see if this thread dies first. I don't want my internet to connect to the account of someone I've never heard of so I could see her dongle number, bills and other details, nor for DB to cause my PC to take more than 3 minutes to boot up and block it from shutting down, nor do I want it to become Unregistered from the firewall again.

    Cheers!

  • The "fix" is not working for me. Adapter list is still blank. Updated and rebooted twice. Of course, not sure if the update is even there since there appears to be no way to tell if you get this update (seriously, the version number does not change?). Back to repair and prompt workaround I go...

  • Hi Sorin,

As stated by myself and others in the thread, the bug seems only to manifest its self when your using a wifi connection. I just updated BD (I assume it updated though it did not prompt me to reboot. Turned off my ethernet connection and turned on the Wifi only connection. Now I cant see my network storage or print and the adapter is not showing up in the BD Firewall module. Will go back to my Ethernet connection and wait to see when the update actually is downloading.

  • Is it just me, or is it not rather stupid to provide an update to fix a major problem, but not to increment the version number so that we know it has been correctly implemented? Support will be left with customers with, and without the problem, and maybe even with regressive bugs,, but not able to know which software level they are actually using?

The entire handling of this bug by BD from the beginning is amateurish to say the least.

    Hello,

By time I was referring to minutes, 15-30 minutes.

You can verify if the update was applied by the prompt received to restart and by checking the version of the ignis.sys file, it should be v.1.1.0.719  after the update.

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender Firewall

  • Sorin!

Update just downloaded on its own and am prompted for a reboot. Fingers crossed. Will breathlessly report back (sorry about the tongue and check response but as you and everyone else knows this has been a trial)

Will report back after testing update....

  • I think he meant ignis.dll. I have it now and the adapters are showing! Yay.
