Bitdefender removing Malwarebytes' files
I'm running win 7 on an i5 750 w/ 16Gb of ram... for years.
Bitdefender has started moving Malwarebytes\MBAMService files into quarantine this morning. I stopped BD after it moved 6 of the files.
Does anybody know what's going on?

Bitdefender is compatible only with the free version of Malwarebytes. In case you are using the Premium version, please stop the real time protection modules from it in order to avoid further software conflicts.

I am running Bitdefender 2020 Total Security and Malwarebytes Premium 4.0.4, with all real-time protection enabled for both products, on two different computers. I have had no issues. As a long-time BD customer, I would be very disappointed with Bitdefender if their program was not compatible with Malwarebytes Premium. It would lead to me dropping Bitdefender in favor of Windows Security.
Malwarebytes does recommend excluding the following files and folders within your anti-virus application to prevent conflicts, and I have added those exclusions to BDTS on both of my computers.
This exclusions list is specific to Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 4.x.
Exclude the following folders: (The complete folder)
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware
C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService
Exclude the following files:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbae64.sys (mbae.sys for x86 systems)
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMChameleon.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMSwissArmy.sys
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mwac.sys
C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\farflt.sys
Try adding the exclusions to Bitdefender and see if there are any problems.

Having two antivirus products with real time protection modules active at the same time would imply that both programs would attempt to scan files and active processes at the same time, which could lead to software conflicts. Basically this implies a security risk due to the fact that both of the antivirus programs would require administrative permissions at the same time.
Also, both Bitdefender and Malwarebytes Premium will replace Windows Security once installed, thus, in case you would uninstall Bitdefender, Malwarebytes Premium would be the only active antivirus on your system.0 -
In my opinion, Malwarebytes Premium (MBP) is not a true anti-virus product, despite their advertising that it can replace an anti-virus application and registers itself as an anti-virus.
I visit the Malwarebytes Forums daily and they categorically state that their product will work along side another "anti-virus" program; and further, that if there are issues arising that they will work with the anti-virus vendor to resolve any issues. Currently, there are reports that Kaspersky does not play nicely with MBP. I have seen no such reports with respect to Bitdefender, other than my own report that BDTS 2020 did not allow MBP to update from version 3.83 to 4.0.4, unless the BDTS protection modules were first disabled. That I did, and the MBP upgrade went smoothly and then I added the file exceptions as recommended by Malwarebytes to BDTS. I have had no issues on either of my computers since I updated MBP.
I would very much like to continue to run both to ensure that I do have "layered" security.

Currently we are not able to provide further recommendations due to the fact that the software conflicts you're mentioning, along with your intention of keeping two antivirus products active at the same time on your computer can be resolved only by disabling the real time protection modules of Malwarebytes Premium.0 -
I am not aware of any software conflicts on my computers. I intend to keep both products installed with real-time protection. If, at some time, that should become problematic because Bitdefender becomes even more "territorial", then Bitdefender will be removed and I will drop back to Windows Security plus Malwarebytes Premium.

As previously mentioned, we cannot guarantee compatibility even if everything seems ok. Also, keep in mind that Malwarebytes will replace and deactivate Windows Defender if it is the only Paid security solution installed on the machine.0 -
Yes. Alex D. is partially right about this issue. Before Malwarebytes 4.0, there was no major problem with compatibility between Malwarebytes and other anti-Virus suites. However, Malwarebytes 4.0 claims that it is an anti-virus replacement from now on and will register in Windows Defender Security Center and disable Windows Defender. garioch7, please pay attention to the topic of "Anti-Virus Replacement" in the following thread from the forum of Malwarebytes: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/253227-announcing-malwarebytes-40-for-windows/ . It is Malwarebytes that has become more "territorial" now as you define compatibility.0 -
Thank you for your post. You can configure MBAM Premium to turn off "Always Register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center" (Settings, Security) and that way Windows Defender is activated and works alongside MBAM Premium. And, of course, MBAM is going to discourage that because they are now marketing themselves as an AV replacement. Most knowledgeable people like to keep a traditional AV, which includes Windows Defender as well as other paid and free products, along with MBAM, for optimal layered security; see this topic for example.
As of now, both BDTS and MBAM are registered in my Windows Security Centers.
Bitdefender has never "guaranteed" compatibility with other real-time security products, but it has, and still does, so far, play nicely with MBAM. If it didn't, you would see a lot of posts here, and over at the MBAM Forums.

Dear garioch7,
A reminder or possibly an unnecessary piece of advice to you as well as other users on this forum. What is actually an anti-virus replacement? I don't want to wast time theorizing all the stuff. I think that the author of the topic of "Anti-Virus Replacement" on the forum of Malwarebytes has made himself understood perfectly by talking about multiple layers of protection and other technological measures combined against various cyberthreats. Basically speaking, an antivirus replacement could refer to some newly developed anit-malware components that function not only with their tradtional defensive mechanism against malware but also with more detective and reactive behaviour of the traditional anti-virus. Under such circumstances, what will it cause if you run two security suites one of which claims to contain and go beyond the traditional solutions at the same time? I still can feel the pain of some poor blokes I persuaded to let me run some tests on their computers in the old days when I was still in the U.K.. Either I was too stupid or the software was indeed buggy or the truth might have been the combination of both. Of course, if your computer be smart enough, I firmly believe that everything will go well if you run Malwarebytes 4.0 along with another security suite, Bitdefender or Windows Defender.0 -
