I cannot install or completely remove the Bitdefender Antivirus Free edition

Hello, how are you?

I had to restore a point on the computer and as the program stopped working I had to reinstall it.

However, I can't install it because it says it is already installed, but nothing appears here. When I tried to uninstall, it worked, but there is a folder that I can't delete, thus being in this impasse.

Could you please check? I would very much like to use the program again.

  • I received this error notice when trying to uninstall and reinstall:

    System extension cannot be used

    The system extension “/Library/Extensions/

    SelfProtect.kext” was installed improperly and cannot

    be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the

    product’s vendor for an update.

    I also received something like the above Product is Installed or You are Safe Statement.

    Wonder if I am Safe....

    Hi Member,

    Kindly perform below steps & see if this helps you in anyway.

    1) Kindly uninstall bitdefender product & bitdefender agent.

    2) Restart PC in safe mode (https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode)

    3) As soon as desktop opens, assuming your windows drive is C, open below things in run (windows icon + R) command one by one :

    C:\Program Files (delete any folder with name bitdefender)

    C:\Program Files (x86) (delete any folder with name bitdefender)

    C:\ProgramData (delete any folder with name bitdefender)

    C:\Users\{your pc name}\AppData\Local (delete any folder with name bitdefender)

    4) Open run command again and run below command one by one :

    temp ,delete all the files in the folder

    %temp% ,delete all the files in folder

    prefetch ,delete all the files in folder

    5) Restart your PC in general mode by unticking the option that you selected to run the system in safe mode and then click apply.

    6) Reinstall bitdefender

    If the issue persists, kindly drop an email to bitdefender support at bitsy@bitdefender.com and they will reply back asap.

  • Good morning Flexx!
    I did the procedure, but even so there is a bitdefender folder with a file "antimalware_provider64.dll" 
    that I was unable to delete (even in safe mode). It says the file is open in another program.
    
    I will contact support.
