No way to cancel auto-renewal - is this even legal?
The Bitdefender payment option has been removed from subscriptions - meaning there is NO OPTION to cancel the auto renewal. As a company supplying a product which has such a good reputation why would Bitdefender use such an underhand practice to prevent people from taking control over their own payment option.
This is clearly a means to make it as difficult as possible for people to cancel the Bitdefender service and is precisely why I will be looking for an alternative AV company who care more about their customers needs.
It's not only the Auto Renew but they want to charge you full price when you can get a much better deal. New users get a better price than loyal users. That's not how a trustworthy company operates.
It doesn't give us much confidence that Bitdefender is looking out for our security when they act like online scammers.
I can't find any place to either turn Off or On Auto Pay.3
On the dashboard, click My Subscriptions on the left. Then click My Payments tab at the top. You'll find "Manage your subscription renewal options" on that page. You're then given the option to keep or turn off auto renewal. When you click turn off it will probably give you the option to renew for half off.0
Linda, you keep telling people this but there is no "My Payments" tab on the subscription screen or any other.2
Agree. I have cancelled by email but who knows whether that will work either.0
I clearly see it. It is just to the right of the dashboard button. Two options, 'Services' and ' My Payments'0
There is definitely NO option to cancel auto renewal under ”services” and “my payments”. I have also tried to cancel via email and have been asked by BD to explain “why” (I should not have to defend a simple request). Bitdefender are deliberately making it as difficult as possible to cancel the auto renewal and for this reason I will be seeking a more customer friendly company to deal with.1
I managed to turn my auto renew OFF in the My Payment Tab.0
what they don't tell you is
you have to go into and sign in to
BITDENDER CENTRAL !
TO DO IT0
There IS NO my payments tab. I want to get this crap software off my pc and especially stop charging my card.
Here is what my central looks like:1
mine is exactly the same I phoned them this afternoon they said they would e mail me but haven't I don't trust this company anymore0
I have used BD for nearly 16 years and I am telling you, BD is not as user friendly as it use to be. They have mangled it so much that it's functionality is not nearly as seamless. I say this because, I have sent many emails to support and haven't once gotten a good answer back. It seems all they want is your money. I like BD but they are turning me off seriously. I have an issue with functionality, as BD takes so long to load all of it's services, that I get frustrated and uninstall just to reinstall, since I still have 603 days on my subscription. It shouldn't take 10-15 mins for BD to load all of it's services before it can really function to do it's job. When I reinstall, it seems to work ok, but then after 24hrs, it goes back to a very, very slow process of loading all of it's services. I think it's because they have bloated it so much that it is just naturally slow. I am getting to the point of just doing away with BD and going with another antivirus provider that will be more seamless and less bloated.0
I just started with this company this month and am ready to cancel. Seeing that there is no payments tab, no info under My Account I'm researching who to report to: FCC?0
Just submitted a complaint to the FCC. Here's the link https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us?return_to=%2Fhc%2Frequests0
I found this link and able to cancel auto renew:0
Like others, I was frustrated by the missing My Payments tab in Bitdefender Central.
Having contacted support via chat in Bitdefender, I managed to cancel my auto-renewal using the 2Checkout site mentioned in the previous post.
I think the reason for not seeing the My Payments tab is down where you bought Bitdefender originally and, potentially, whether you have changed your email address from the one you used originally to purchase Bitdefender.
I bought mine from Avangate (the Bitdefender "web shop", now renamed 2Checkout) and I had also changed my email address.
This link explains how to cancel the auto-renewal using 2Checkout. Go to the section titled "If you purchased Bitdefender with a different e-mail address from the one you use when logging in to Central": https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/29081
To use 2Checkout, you need to remember the email address you used when you purchased Bitdefender and that email address must still be active. You do not need a password as 2Checkout sends an account access link to that email address.
If you can't remember your email address, or the email address is no longer active, then I'd suggest you contact Support. I used the support chat option, they were very helpful and provided me with a decent hint as to what my email address was.
This link explains about 2Checkout: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/29214/2
I did what Linda502 suggested. I had some trouble locating the mentioned items to click but they are there and it worked. It also gave me a message saying auto renew was cancelled. The site is very cluttered so it make take a little effort to find the items but they are there.1
Be sure to cancel the auto renew the next time your subscription is up, if you choose to renew again that is. I got an email a few weeks back saying I only had 2 weeks left on my sub and if I renewed then it would be for 60% off, which is what its offered for on their website anyway. That email also made no mention of the auto-renew. I didn't pay it much mind as I had turned off the auto renew in 2020 and figured Id find a better deal when the time to resub came. To my dismay I got an email from Paypal saying I was billed $95 and change from BitDefender/Avangate, $50 more that it costs on their site. I contacted them with a screenshot of the email I got after disabling the auto-renew and apparently it resets after a new purchase. They offered to renew for the price they sell it on the website but I chose to move on after almost a decade. Really shady0
Follow the steps from METHOD 1 here:
It does the job for me, my subscription was never auto-renewed, i always do it manually.
I emailed them last week because the autorenewal was on and I couldn't get it turned off. The reply said autorenewal was now turned off. Then today I got an email saying it was still on. I finally found dashboard and my payments. After about four pages it finally let me turn off auto renewal.
I think it turns on when updating data?? Not sure but it is frustrating, especially as I live rural and have very slow internet..0
I can see that you have two subscriptions, one for the antivirus and one for the VPN. Each subscription has its own renewal flow. So, you have disabled the automatic renewal feature for the VPN product on October 7th and renewed manually on October 16th with a new purchase. Kindly be advised that, the automatic renewal preferences are not kept from one order to another, thus each time you renew your subscriptions with a new purchase, you should also disable the automatic renewal feature, in the event you do not wish to keep it enabled.
For the Total Security solution, you have disabled the automatic renewal feature just yesterday. The best place to view and manage your subscriptions would be indeed under the "My Payments" section in Central.
But you can also use the 2Checkout account to manage your Bitdefender orders and subscriptions in detail:
- view the status of your order even if the payment is incomplete
- view your complete order history
- download invoices
- retrieve activation codes
- renew your subscription
- stop or enable the automatic renewal of your service
- find the support details for the purchased Bitdefender product
- edit all your personal and billing information
You may access your 2Checkout account here.
I just canceled auto renewal had to do it through the secure.2co.com website1
I too had auto renewal turned off but it seems gets turned on again without my permission I didn’t see any emails either to say it would be automatically renewed. So I got charged full price for my subscription $149.99 when I went to my account does not have the option to turn off either, rang and there refunding my money 7 -10 days not happy. He said there would be an update to the website that will fix it. Won’t hold my breath though. And yes I can get it for 70% off locally0
