Windows Vista Bsod With Corrupt Registry
A nightmare. BitDefender 2009 (I paid for 2 year license!) crashed saying there a problem and I need to reboot.
I rebooted. The computer never came back up! I get BSOD everytime I try to boot. No option worked - safe mode, last best configuration - nothing works. All I get is a BSOD with a "Registry Corrupt" message.
Nothing new on this computer installed except BDefend 2009.
Only option now is to re-install windows from restore disk. I got to wait for a week to get that sent to me via snail mail.

Sorry. I do have Vista SP1.
I've just downloaded and recovered my Vista OS from the BSOD cycle nightmare.
From what I can figure from the event logs and from various posts on the internet - Windows defender caused some kind of Registry leak.
I found this in the event log:
1 user registry handles leaked from \Registry\User\S-1-5-21-763107572-2136100795-1017507981-1005_Classes: Process 1008 (\Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\svchost.exe) has opened key \REGISTRY\USER\S-1-5-21-763107572-2136100795-1017507981-1005_CLASSES
The BSOD always gave the message on the crash screen that registry was corrupted and windows cannot start.
Will post more information as I investigate. For now, Vista SP2 is release candidate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle.

Just disable Windows Defender. You don't need it
Run Windows Update to solve Windows bugs.0
