2010 Bd Antivirus

Bitdefender Evangelist... I need your help!

I have three computer's all within the time duration that started on BDAV 2008. One of them had trouble earlier this year. At the recommendation of support, they had me upgrade to 2009. This summer my second computer had trouble with 2008 so I emailed tech support, they too recommended to upgrade. When I did, it skipped to 2010. I uploaded 2010, but found that it would NEVER update the signatures. I went through all the troubleshooting. Sent several emails to tech support, but NOT ONCE did I receive ANY reply. I'm using the email address on the site AND on the trouble shooter. (nope haven't changed my email address or server).

I tried the weekly update. That wouldn't work either. I did the uninstall and reinstall. Nope no worky! Every recommendation I've seen on the trouble shooting didn't work. Finally, I tried to uninstall 2010 and install 2009 and you guessed it, it won't load up. I'm so fed up with this product and total lack of technical support, I've switched computer # 2 over to FREE AVG!

My computer running on 2009 is still fine.

Now I noticed my third computer still running 2008 won't update the signatures either and hasn't for a month or so. GREAT! So I tried the manual update and the weekly update for 2008. Nope they don't work. SO I looked to see if there's a 2009 upgrade on BD site which there's not. I did find a copy on CNET and downloaded that. Of course, I've tried THREE times and it won't upgrade the 2008 to 2009.

I can be reached at davemilster@netzero.net for specific instructions. (and I don't mean go to a warm place either)

  • Hello dmilster,

In order to further investigate this sittuation we have sent you an email with some steps that you need to follow . Please reply back when you have time with the reports that we have asked you .

    Thank you.

  • Alex,

I received the FORUM notification email but NO email from any kind of technical support.

    Try my work email address:

    dmilster@paynecrest.com

  • Hello dmilster,

We have resent you the email to the email address that you have provided. We are looking forward to your reply.

    Thank you.

  • I didn't receive an email from BD tech support on my work email either. I have access to my spam filter for work and there's NO message from BD tech support or you for that matter. Are you sure they are being sent? How about you send it with a "read notification." Then you can post where it was "received" by me... uh oh wait you can't,

More of the third machine's saga. I finally was able to get BDAV 2009 to load and operate without any help from BD tech support BUT it's doing the same BS as the one that I loaded 2010 on. It will not do an update. I went through all the help topics related to update services not available. I ran update services not available patch. I went to run and did the services thingy. I added the port 80 on the MS windows firewall. I ran the weekly update. None of this makes it to where it will update automatically or manually. This machine is a PC running Win XP SP 3 with 500Meg of memory. It has Windows Defender running as well as the BDAV (if you want to call it running). I have the netgear router I've had for years with its built in firewall too. I've not made any changes to its settings.

The only thing I can see is MS may have made security updates which interfere with BD... I would hope you guys would discover these and send out a BLANKET update/email to ALL BD users, instead of leaving us all adrift in cyberspace.

I was reading on some other posts and see the message where you said to upgrade to 2010 and it fixes everything... well that's a bunch of hooey! My # 2 machine would NEVER update either for 2010. I did all the recommended fixes there too as I've stated before and they didn't work.

One other thing, I've tried on the # 2 machine to run the virus scan from your website. Then it states it needs to run an activex file. I authorize it and then the message says "the BD site is not AUTHORIZED to distribute this ACTIVEX" and goes no further.

I'd suggest you guys send me a refund for about a third of the programs retail price as that's what's left that's not usable. It was for 2 yrs and I figure I've only been able to use a little over a year. Not to mention all the TIME I've wasted trying to get your software to WORK!

I like the one guys post of a class action lawsuit... This is just unbelievable!

One mor e thing. I verified my email account. This is the screenshot showing my "do not block" list. BD's tech support has been on there since the very first tech support email I received.

Like I said. When computer # 1's BDAV I did receive emails from tech support. Same for # 2... but none lately.

Is there a different address that I should add to my "do not block" list?

  • Hello dmilster,

I have resent you the email on your third email address and I assure you the the other 2 emails were sent as well. Maybe, you should provide us an email address created on Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail, since I am sure that this issue is not from our end.

A first step in solving this sittuation, is to install BitDefender 2010 on one of your systems. Bellow, you will find the steps that will help you do this :

    a. Save and run first the uninstall tool from the next link and then reboot the PC:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

    b. Save your product from the next link:

    http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...us_2010_32b.exe

    - copy and paste the link into your browser and press [Enter].

    - a new window will appear with two options: [save] and [run] - press [save]

    - after saving the file, please run it in order to install it.

    c. Register it with your license key .

Now, in case you encounter any issues, there is nothing that we can do unless we have a look on some reports created on your system. Regarding the update issue that you had, we need to see what is the error message that you receive, if there is one. Please open BitDefender in Expert Mode and click on the Update module. Hit the Update Now button and take a screen-shot of this window. Please reply with the screen-shot attached.

Bellow, you will find the steps that will help you obtain the report that we need to look on:

    1. Open My Computer.

    2. Browse to

    C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2010

    - considering that BitDefender was installed on the default C partition

    3. Doubleclick on the supporttool.exe file .(in case you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, right click on the the supporttool.exe file and choose "Run as administrator" )

    4. Click on Next, wait a few minutes for the progress bar to complete and then click on Finish .

    5. Go to the desktop, upload the report on http://www.sendspace.com/ then send me a PM with the download link or reply to our email with the report attached .

    Thank you.

Well after an agonizing week of installations and updates (which is finally working) but going through the various things it wants fixed. Now the computer is so slow, that any icon clicked is a 20 second wait. UGH! I have pretty much given up on 2010 on this computer. If it's less than 1 gig speed and less than 512 meg of memory, don't bother it is worse than when I gave up on Norton several years ago.

  • Hello dmilster,

In order to be able to determine what is causing these slowdowns, please follow the steps bellow :

    1. Open My Computer.

    2. Browse to

I've been out of town for a while and haven't had the chance to work on this computer/BDAV problem.

The first thing after running the computer overnight is that during the quick scan BDAV got a series of critical errors. I sent the messages to BDtech support about them... see first attached screenshot.

Then, I rebooted the computer and ran your recommendation above to look into the slow speed.

Supportool.exe only made it part way through and then "hung up"... I let the program run for 15 mins and it made no progress. Attached is the screenshot of this.

I rebooted and tried a second time. I let the program run for over an hour. It stuck in the same place. checking on task manager although applications showed "running" the processess tab showed the computer was "idle" 98% imoplying no supporttool actions were taking place.

Running supportool did create two file folders on the desktop. I've looked at sendspace to send them but for multiple files it wants your email address which I used support@bitdefender.com

It returned these links for the first folder supportool created:

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/cr264j

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/85353f

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/vkmm67

Then it gave these for the second folder:

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/wy2117

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/4ukpdc

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/flsd50

If your recommendations after this don't fix it, I AM THROUGH! I've wasted countless hours on this antivirus program.

  • Hello dmilster,

We saw that there was a BitDefender critical error message displayed in the screen-shot that you have submitted. Every time this type of errors occurs, some special BitDefender reports are created . We need to have a look on these files . Please browse to the next location: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BitDefender\Desktop\Temp , archive all the files that you will find there, upload the archive on http://www.sendspace.com/ then post here the download link .

This location is hidden and you will have to follow the steps bellow in order to have access to it :

    - go to your "Control Panel" and open "Folder Options";

    - then go to the "View" tab and perform the changes listed below:

    * check "Display contents of system folders"

    * check "Show hidden files and folders"

    * uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types"

    * uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"

    - click "Apply" and then "OK" to exit.

We are looking forward to your reply .

    Thank you.

Clearly with no followup reply from BD tech support ... this is going to be alot harder than I'm willing to invest more and more hours into making this sorry Bitdefender Antivirus work.

I'm pulling the plug on this sorry program.

BUYER BEWARE.... Don't be fooled or conned into buying this terrible program!
