This doesnt sound good. Ive paid for this product so it needs to work. If you check out just the first page of this forum, there are 3 or 4 different threads discussing the problems with updating. I have to restart my PC 3 or 4 times a day.

Try putting your system protection level to default, firefox is trying to update, at least this was the case for me. I'll try that if the message keeps popping up. Today it hasn't (and it actually allowed Firefox to tell me there was an update available).
