At least I have been able to uninstall easily. Hopefully they will fix and I can reinstall.

I have this problem too. This is really unacceptable and urgent. Turning off autopilot does not stop the process. Is it safe to force quit this process? BTW, this is a NEW problem which suggests it occurred when an update was rolled out. The obvious solution would be to roll back your update.
