Hi Escalader, The server(s) that BD uses to update are found in Update Settings. Other alternative servers that you can use are: http://upgrade.bitdefender.com (default setting) http://upgrade1.bitdefender.com http://upgrade2.bitdefender.com http://upgrade3.bitdefender.com http://upgrade4.bitdefender.com I can't give you…

Hello Escaladar 1) BitDefender scans by default both incoming as outgoing email. 2)BitDefender scans the attachments and also the message. You can verify when you receive or send a mail than you will normally see a kind of popup of BitDefender where you can see it's scanning. 3) The attachments are both scanned with…

Gmail use SSL connection. If you create an account in Thunderbird for Gmail you will have to use 995(SSL connection) for pop3 server and 587(TSL) connection for SMTP. You will receive e-mails trough 995 port (SSL). TY I use MS Outlook for email or just my isp server mail service.

Hello Escalader As CFW already includes HIPS you don't need another one. Hello I'm back like a bad penny: "CFW 2.4 has no HIPS function but 3.0 will". this statements has been validated on the CFW forum. So I'm on 2.4 and that means at the moment I don't have a HIPS... see ya

Hello Escalader As CFW already includes HIPS you don't need another one. Yes, but unless I'm wrong (highly doubtful! ha ha) CFW 2.4 doesn't it is the new CFW 3.0 Beta that is supposed to include that function. I will check again to confirm. More later

Also BD don't scan encrypted (SSL) traffic. So if you grab your gmail inbox with thunderbird for example and has viruses bitdefender can't know until you ru the attachemnt.. Hmmm seems like a choice between gmail validation versus virus's sneaking past. What do you think? Doesn't thunderbird check virus?

If you are concern about leak test(ddl injection, process injection/termination, OLE communication,...) then a HIPS software will do the job. I see in you sig that you use ZAP, it`s score well in leak tests and you can use his OS firewall as a HIPS. For me, SSM free version is enough. Just one question: Does ZAP provide a…

The update servers are different from the one with statistic reports. Why? Beacuse we need to have good connection to all the users from the World. That's why you will have servers scattered all over the World and only one server that gathers information about viruses and spam in Romania. If you are concerned about your…
-
The owner you see there is INES , that is one of our Internet Providers. The connection is leading to our internal server.Over this connection are virus and spam statistics send. Real Time Virus Report (RTVR) & Real Time Spam Report (RTSR) RTVR/RTSR is a system included in BitDefender products deployed all over the…

Hello, Nobody except Bitdefender can register sub-domains of BitDefender.com ,the Head Quarters of BitDefender are in Romania. Once you own a Domain name you can register as many sub-domains as you want for free, that can be done just by the main owner of the domain. The report.bitdefender.com could be a server in the HQ so…

Did a reverse DNS and the ip comes up as Bucerest Romania. No information on organization owning it. The whois data base lists this country with a high fraud profile?

Here is the latest information I have on this: 1) As Chris suggested I turned off the "Send virus reports and Enable BitDefender Outbreak Detection" options in BD setup. The repeated connections to 80.86.106.67 continue unabated. 2) I ran a Whois Server Version 1.3 here is the result. Domain names in the .com and .net…

Hi Escalader, I might be wrong, but that could be BitDefender trying to send/receive data about viruses as a result of the options Send virus reports and Enable BitDefender Outbreak Detection (General -> Settings) Try to disable these options, and see if you have any more attempts. Cris. Hi Chris: I will try your idea,…

Hi Escalader, I didn't test Flanktest. Could you provide a link for it? As for "what test has BD FW already passed", as far as I know ShieldsUP! is the best out there (of course, I might be wrong). One of these days I'll start looking for some other leaktests on the web to see how BD reacts to them (not because I don't…

Hi Chris: Whoops, on the id I made a typo "d" should have been "f" My fingers are so wide they cover 3 keys at a time! so it should have read ....leak tests to test their own settings or even IF where rules need changing? I think you are saying BD FW doesn't assume that the router should be trusted as with ZA design. and…
-
Hi Escalader, Yes, you can use whatever leak tests or firewall tests you want. Just be very careful, because out there are a lot of fake firewall tests which, instead of testing your security, bring in some viruses (very dangerous viruses). About the help with rules setting (does "id" in your post mean "aid"??), BD can't…

Hi Escalader, klick on the leftsite by your name, the pulldown menue shows your profile and posts. Greets loony Thanks, like your id! In my country it is worth $1.00! Sometimes I think my posts are a value of 1 cent!

Hi Escalader, Yes, you can fully configure the connections for any application you want. You can restrict connections by source/destination port, source/destination IP, protocol (TCP,UDP,ICMP, IP). You just have to be very patient about it. To do that, open BD Management Console, go to Firewall and either double click an…

Hi Escalader, When someone (or something) tryes to probe your computer for open ports, BitDefender does not send (and does not allow your PC to send) any kind of information. This is the report from ShieldsUP! @Jimbo Kern: If by "whether Bitdefender is running or not" you mean that you closed BD Management Console (right…
-
Hi Jimbo Kern, Try ShieldsUP! It's the best Firewall tester out there. If you configure BD correctly, it should pass on every test. I too have BD 10IS, and I'm 100% protected by the firewall (it passed ShieldsUP! with flying colors). If your BD fails one of the tests there, post here and I'll help you configure BD so that…

Hi, Today I connected my old computer to internet. To do this, I enabled Internet Connection Sharing on my newer PC and I connected the older one to it. Everything works fine. My older PC has a very poor configuration (PII, 400MHz, 128 SDRAM, Windows 98SE). Obviously, I can't use BitDefender on that. On the newer PC I have…

It's missing. It's right here. Don't worry about the thread beeing pushed downwards. It won't be deleted. And besides, the link you posted in the "Feature request" board will direct anyone to this thread even if it will be the last in the list Great! I see it!
-
Okay, Cris! I posted the link to our privacy issue thread in products so we wait I guess for a response. Hi Cris: I'm concerned all our work on privacy feature and expanding ports scanned will get lost as our thread seems to get pushed further down list by new issues. I did post the link to the thread in feature request…

Hey, don't worry about misspelling my name. I realise that I have a name that is very similar to an English name (Chris), but that's not my fault, it's my parent's fault Since this is the Official BitDefender Forum and that thread was created by Forum Moderators, then yes, that thread is monitored by BD's Officials. Okay,…
-
@Escalader: First of all, it's Cris, not Chris (you're the second user that mistakes my name) Second: I totally agree with you. Malicious programs that steal you private information most probably won't use HTTP and SMTP to send out that information. You could post your request here:…

Hi Escalader, It seems that it only works if you add to Privacy Control only ONE word for each rule. It must not contain spaces or other symbols (" !@#$%^&*().,`~[]{};':"<>/? ") Example: * if you add: 123456, it will work even if you search for 123456789 * if you add: 123.456, 123 456 or something like that, it won't work…

I made a quick test: I added a phone number in Privacy Protection, then I used Google to search for that number. You can proceed like I did: add some information in the Privacy Protection and then use an unencrypted connection to send them (either search for that information on the web: Google, Yahoo, etc... or send that…
-
Hi Escalader BitDefender encrypts the information that you entered in the privacy module. You can see it when you add a new rule. When Privacy control is enabled BD will filter all outgoing http and smtp traffic to protect your confidential data when you make rules. For more information take a look at this manual :…

Hi Escalader, That's correct: you don't get any alerts, because that site uses HTTPS, not HTTP. HTTPS is a secured version of HTTP, which uses encrypted data transfer, therefore it's safe. Only HTTP (port 80) and SMTP (port 25) are scanned by the Privacy Protection. Hi Cris: thanks a lot! Very clear answer! Why is the scan…
