hi, it was the family pack and from a link to the bitdefender website after using the "install on another device" option from the bitdefender control panel. it's now sorted after following Flex's suggestions, and had to use the offline installer.

Thanks Flex. Tried the online installer, and that does exactly the same as i was getting previously. tried the 64 bit offline installer. i get exactly the same, just bought the family pack. installed fine to the dektop. fails on the laptop. thought it was because the laptop was running win8.1 so upgraded to 10 and still fails with the install. not impressed so far and will be going back to avast on the laptop. the link posted a few comments above is uselss…
