is the same true for most spyware programs? I loaded vundo, bitdefender, atfcleaner and combofix onto my desktop as I thought I could get to them easier. hmmm? Thanks for the help thus far! Will re-install hijackthis now.

First of all your Hijackthis is installed in the wrong location, please reinstall Hijackthis on your C: drive Also, you must rename C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe to anything.exe you feel comfortable with, as new baddies are now able to detect and hide from hijackthis.exe.
