Sounds like Bitdefender needs to completely rewrite the code for its "Parental Controls." Yup. I'm just sitting on BitDefender 2012 for now. Swapping between BitDefender 2012 and 2013 using the usual uninstall method has worked fine for me... are you having issues using that?

Good plan; thanks!! I think it's pretty poor of Bitdefender to put ads in their software. Agreed. Let me know if they still do! I only just bought a license a few days back (was like $15 and heavily discounted... and my old antivirus [not BD] expired) so i can't check for you.

I've just uninstalled BitDefender 2013 and gone back to 2012. Problem solved.

It's a bit early to say. Maybe install the 2013 version, carry over your current license and see if they still come up.
