Thanks. I just tried that but still get the same error message. I'm using Windows 7 (SP1) with a 64 bit operating system. Any ideas of what else I can do? I have another computer that runs on Windows 8 and I installed Bitdefender on that last night with the same CD and had no problems there.

Yes, I am installing as an administrator. I first tried installing it from a CD I bought and I've subsequently tried to download it from this link: http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/solutions/total-security.html
