I've un-installed BitDefender, rebooted, Installed BitDefender, rebooted and still NO firewall. Same error message as before. Time to cut my losses, and look for another product.

Did you try the link I posted? I tried the steps in the KB article you posted and i still cant start the Firewall - i get the same error message as before!!! Do i try to re-install the whole software?? Is there some diagnostic program that can determine what is causing this problem?
