BitDefender AntiVirus Plus 10 Update problem.

Options

I'm having a little problem with BitDefender AntiVirus Plus 10 Updates. It was working fine before but today it started to say that I have an Invalid key and it has expired so it can't update. However in the registration section of BitDefender it says my key doesn't expire until 2009. So I don't know what's going on, I downloaded and used the patch from here: http://news.bitdefender.com/NW262-en--BitD...tion-Patch.html though the updates still won't work. :(

Can someone please help me with this, thanks in advance.

    Hi Grim Reaper

You can wait here till someone of BitDefender will answer or contact customer care : http://www.bitdefender.com/site/Live-Assistance.html You have to select customer care.

In the mean time you can manually download the virus signatures here : http://www.bitdefender.com/site/view/Deskt...ts-Updates.html

    Hi JiN~

The error you receive has to do that there are sometimes server problems. Then sometimes you see that behaviour. The only solution is update manually after some time. Then BD must update again without any problems.

    Hi Niels,

I have had the same problem with downloading the updates since April 10th. I have contacted BD support by email & they requested certain files which I forwarded to them twice now & have had no further response. Yesterday April 21st I call Support here in Canada & waited online for 1 hour never to get a person to talk to. I have updated manually but the problem continues.. This morning BD informs me there is a virus update along with a Product update but was unable to download it for the same reason that others have indicated. Is ther any way that I can go to their website & download the product update in hope that will rectify this ongoing problem? You have indicated "The only solution is update manually after some time. Then BD must update again without any problemsl" If this is so, is it fair enough to conclude the problem exsits from BD download server & not the server I am subscribed to?

Manual updates contain only virus signatures. They don't contain the Product Updates.

@everyone who has this problem: The official installation kits were updated on 18 apr 2007. If you have problems updateing, try to download a new installation kit and reinstall BitDefender.

Same problems here. We have uninstalled and reinstalled, tried getting help from BD (not responsive -- maybe due to the weekend?). We've only been using BD for a few months now and were very satisfied ... have recommended it to others etc. But, this situation has not been handled well. If they are having update server problems, for example, making a prominent posting on the front page to that effect would've saved me several hours on-line (dial-up here), and kept my confidence in BD high.

Bummer! The good news: I could be reclaimed as a rabid BD proponent if BD would simple improve their communications with affected customers and fix the thing. Meanwhile, aaaaaaaaaaarrrrggg!

  • Sorry for your problems but the thing it's not about the weak communication that we have, it's about the little time that we have on our hands to resolve certain problems that are reported here on the forums or on the support lines.

Updates will be launched on a daily bases to patch certain bugs and flaws.

I know where you are coming from, I too work in the trenches and get overbooked and can't provided the level of service I'd like. That said, I think that no proactive communication qualifies as poor communication (call it my opinion). OK, so again that isn't your problem, fine, I understand that. But your corporate higher-ups ought to care and find resources to fill the gap to preserve a good reputation for the company and its products.

As for the updates, if the suggestion is that keeping my auto update setting on then my installation will repair itself when the fix is available, that is great! Is that the case?

Anyway, Florin, it sounds like growing pains. You folks have a great thing going with your product. I intend no offense by my critique of the communications -- I'd like to remain a satisfied BD user and rather think that my suggestion would benefit the company and its products were action taken to address it.

<img class=" /> My last virus definitions update was April 10 2007, up until then my life was sweet and normal, BUT THEN ALL ###### BROKE LOSE! And my Bitdefender v10 will not update, it looks just like a puppy going in circles chasing its tail. What is the problem and when will it get fixed? two weeks with out definitions is not cool! I have contacted support (3) times still no fix offered, what a big mess someone caused. They are lucky that I am not their boss or they would be looking for a new job!

    Hi Cookie,

There is a new installation kit on the Official BitDefender servers, dated on 18 apr. Try to download that and fix (or reinstall) your BitDefender.

The 10 April update had some (serious) bugs that crashed in different ways. If that update messed up your BD's update engine, then it will never be able to update itself, and you have to install it again (using the newest installation kit).

The English version of BD AV Plus is here: http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de..._avplus_v10.exe

If you use BD in another language, look for it here: http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...rus_plus/final/

    Cris,

I have BD AV 10, not AV Plus, but am experiencing the same difficulties and have reinstalled from the build located at http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...virus/final/en/ (which has a date of 4/18) and it did not repair the problem. Do you know whether or not it was intended to do so? If so, any other ideas as to how to repair?

    Thank you!

The installation kit, dated 18 Apr, was supposed to be fully updated at that date and shouldn't suffer from the bugs the 10 Apr Update had.

When you uninstalled the previous version, did you use the Uninstall Tool? Using that Tool should remove absolutely everything about BD from your computer, so you can make a 100% fresh reinstall.

Sorry, but I don't (yet) have any other suggestions about this problem.

The update function of my bitdefender v10 is really messed up. I will give them ONE MORE WEEK ! TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, IF THEY DO NOT FIX IT, THIS COOKIE IS JUMPING OUT OF THEIR COOKIE JAR! FOR GOOD! A PERSON WHO IS TRYING TO START AN ONLINE BUSINESS

DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO HASSLE WITH THESE TYPE OF PROBLEMS, IT IS JUST NOT WORTH IT! <img class=" /> STILL EVEN SO, ALL MY BEST TO YOU CRIS, AND MANY THANKS FOR TRYING TO HELP!

    Thank you Cris,

No I hadn't used the uninstaller -- I'd used the repair option. Subsequently BD emailed with a suggestion (renaming bdredir.dll and .sys) which seemed to work for me. I'd seen hints of that approach elsewhere, but it sounded a little too "experimental" to me. But with word from BD directly, I gave it a try with good results so far.

I'm having the same problem. Haven't been able to update for almost 2 weeks. I've tried everything in this link, as well as what tech support has told me via email. I can't get broadband out here in the sticks, and so it's taking days just to try out all of the possible downloads. Not to be an arse or anything, but I paid for 2 computers for 2 years of subscription; it's been 5 months..."sorry" doesn't cut it. The problem needs to be fixed and NOW. Days go by, weeks go by, and it's causing my two computers to be exposed; it's also wasting the subscription that I've paid for. I appreciate that the problem is being worked on, but get the lead out...THIS IS WHAT OUR SUBSCRIPTION MONEY PAYS FOR! I'm sticking it out a little longer, because I do like the program (if it would ever start working again). I've only been able to use 5 months of the 24 months that I've paid for, so if I DO go elsewhere I feel like I would be entitled reimbursement for the 19 months (2 computers) subscription that I'm unable to collect on. I'm sure everyone else having this problem agrees with me. Sorry to be so brazen, but I feel it's necessary.

 A stroke of genius I finally fixed the update problem with my bitdefender v10, I HOPE. After getting told to do this and do that by bidefender support I got smart. I was about to jump out of the bitdefender cookie jar, since nothing bitdefender support offered worked for me.

What I did was I went into Programs/BitDefender. There you have three choices 1. BitDefender Help 2. Modify, Repair or Uninstall 3. Read Me. I Chose Repair but first I wrote down my Product Key, saved my settings, then proceeded to Repair, and Repair it did. After BitDefender repaired itself, I hit the Default Settings button and then the Apply button. Then the long process of updating files about 10,000 KB. Good thing BitDefender updates itself as it downloads files, because since I have Dialup it took me about 3 hours to update BitDefender. But all in all I think I am one smart Cookie ( pardon the pun) just couldn’t resist. I hope this helps someone out there. If it helps I’ll take my pay all of it in chocolate chip cookies! Hey when BitDefender Support can’t help you! You have to do for yourself! :P<img class=" />:P Well I am going to have a couple of cookies and then jump back into the cookie jar. The only thing I wonder about is why didn’t think to use the repair function sooner!

    COOKIE signing off

  • Good news here too. I found out that the order that you do things is important. First I ran the uninstall utility, then reinstalled, then ran the "week.exe" that's on the manual update page. It seems to have fixed the problem.

:P To whoever edited my post, Thanks for correcting me about the use of caps! Now could you please go back in to my post the one you edited before this one and fix your spelling mistake. you are are making me look bad, right after 10,000 kb. "Good thong " Bitdefender updates itself. it should be"Good thing" a thong is one of those fancy tiny little things, people wear as an under garment! Check the dictionary. Cookies Rule! :P

I hate to say it but the cookie monsters back! After repairing Bitdefender v10 and updating everything all was well until a a couple of days ago now it will not update itself again! It will see if it continues past this coming week, if it does continue messing up then I will have to change to another antivirus program! This is just becoming one gigantic hassle! I like my Bitdefender antivirus but I cannot with such an error filled update function!

Dude what's the thing with the cookie?!

As for BD updates not working do what those evanghelists said, use the links to download the latest virus signitures.Just do it once a week(i think it's enough).Your problem might be the server from which you update.Try to switch to another one. There are like 4 or 5 of them.(as for the good thong i think it's better like that :P )

  • alexcrist
    Options

@mihai_romanian: updating BD (or any other AV) once a week is not enough. Hundreds (maybe thousands) of new viruses are released every day, so if you want protection, you have to make updates as many times as you can.

The default 1 hour between updates was not set just to say "BitDefender releases updates every hour. It's the best because of this!". This interval was set to ensure the maximum protection against new viruses.

First of all, try to spell my name correctly. It's Cris, not Chris.

Second: I'm not showing off. I'm giving advice. Updating an AV product once a week is a HUGE hole in your security. If you want to follow my advice, fine. If you don't, still fine.

 Lets see now I tried what Bitdefender support suggested, I even went so far as to use the repair function, I listened with faith as Cris Bitdefender Evangelist tried to help me , everything I have tried has not helped. The next step I will attempt is an Exorcism! I've tried everything I can think of except for raiding all the cookie jars in Romania. Nothing works, my Bitdefender v10 will simply not update itself! Today again checked 5/8/2007 last updated 4/30/2007. Every time I try to manually update it ends with a horrible scream of agony "update error." Windows security alerts states that " Bitdefender Antivirus reports it may be out on a date. Maybe this will teach Bitdefender support to forever strike the word "thong," from their technical jargon, as this may have been what opened up the portal through which the Evil entered and effected my Bitdefender v10 antivirus program. Well darkness falls and it's time I head back to the cookie jar, now the only thing left to do is to await the Exorcist! :(
  • I can't bealive how funny you were lol.As for the updates not working, well i'm sorry for you.

Now your probably gona give up BD too?

It will be a shame not seeing you post here!

    Well good luck .

My advice is to contact once again the support by Live Assistance and explain them that the suggestions that gave you won't work. They have a lot of suggestions to the same problem, and that depends on your problem. Maybe they didn't identified the problem correctly and that's why you should talk to them again.

The thing is that you are the only one left with this type of problem so you should really contact support to let you know what do you have to do.

He is not the only one having this problem I am also having frustrating times with it and have talked to support by email and telephone. Have not recivied any substantial advise from them. I will try one more call to them, if no resolve I will remove BD & go to another program which offers better support.

Kaspersky support is very good.. A little more expensive though if you want just AV + firewall without (ie the pro level product).. Thats Bitdefenders best feature for me, the mid level product...

:P Well I am now out of the Bitdefender cookie jar, after one year and a half. I used Bitdefender 9 and then v10. I am a bit sad as I really liked my Bitdefender antivirus program. But I know that it is not the softwares fault! It is probably the software programmers who can't get their act together! They are probably staying up to late at night watching the women dancers thongs! And then when they come to work they get their ones and zeros all mixed mixed up, and we " the customers," pay for it! <img class=" /> I had to go back to the antivirus program I had before I tried Bitdefender, ca antivirus, even though I still had about (7) months left on my Bitdefender before its updates would expire. To Mihai smile always, to Cris stay cool, To whoever runs Bitdefender please revoke all free passes to the"kitty clubs," for the programmers, and also for Bitdefender support, until they get their act together! Oh by the way I picked up a nasty little virus during the time I could not update. But now I think I will have a cookie, and then decide what movie to watch, well at least now I don't have to worry about updates anymore. Now I can concentrate on worrying about real important things like eating, sleeping, listening to music, movies, looking at the Victorias secrets catalog etc, you know really important things that matter, and of course eating cookies! :P lol to all! For love will always be the greatest gift of all! Cookie!
