Update Download Just Too Freakin' Big!

Well, I'll try here and see if anyone can help me... <_<

I just purchased BitDefender Antivirus 2009. Brand new. The updates are a whopping 50,464 Kb! At my slow dialup connection speed, that's about 7-8 hours...that is, if all went well, which it won't. My connection simply will NOT maintain a download that long. Not possible. I get about 2 or 3 hours or so, and then something will happen, there will be an error, I'll get disconnected, and my computer will forget all that it just spent the last 2 hours downloading. I've tried 2 or 3 times, and I ain't tryin' anymore. This is why I bought it in the box at the store, I knew I wouldn't be able to download it. Besides, this is an awful lot of updates....should there really be that much from between the time my disk was produced and now???

At any rate, is there any way I can cut the download up into more manageable bites? If I can't update, this program will be useless, and I'll have to go get Norton...

If you can't borrow a broadband connection, you might also want to consider getting a download manager that will allow you to resume downloads at the point your connection drops. There's one included in Firefox. If you don't want to change browsers, you could also check out CNET's www.download.com and search through the download manager apps there. (Of course, those would require a download too, but they'd be less than 50 MB.)

I just downloaded the updates on the computer at work. High speed connection. Took 2 minutes...

Put them on a USB memory stick.

Another question. I also found the manual downloads on the bitdefender site, and they have links for 32bit and 64bit (I went ahead and downloaded both onto my memory stick)....what is this supposed to mean? I've seen it in reference to Service Pack 2, but I cannot find either of these terms anywhere on my computer. (Windows XP, I believe it is 2002 edition...I'm not there at the moment.) So, I don't know which one I should use.

If you have many programs installed its 32bit(there aren't many programs for 64bit)or if you use 32bit programs but all computers have 32bit except you tell them to put 64bit processor. hope you find the solution

Change your ISP or move to Romania <img class= " /> .In 2008 you should be able to download in MB rates.

Hello Stophel,

To see if you have a 64 bit version of windows you need to do this press the windows button together with r now type this winver press enter. If you have a 64 bit version you should see for example windows xp professional x64 or windows xp professional 64 bit. But if you bought a branded computer in a store than it's definitely a 32 bit version except if you asked for it. The reason why your update was that big is because in the meantime there were a couple of product upgrades. A boxed version is always out of date. The version that you can download from the BitDefender websites are always the most recent versions.
