All My Picture Files Are Taken Over By A Virus. Heeeeelllllllllllp!

My computer icon has changed to this crap:

All my jpg files are symboled like a key:

http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/attachment...mp;d=1227155288

I tried to change the default program opening the jpg, bmp, and gifs but the option has become inactive, and the current program is some "somazina@gmail.com":http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/attachment...mp;d=1227155221

Real time protection of my bitdefender was enabled when this happened. And I had paid for the antivirus! My one is Bitdefender 2008. This happened when i inserted a pen drive, checked it with antivirus which found nothing, then opened it.

System restore in my computer is turned off because viruses use this place to hide.

What do I do now?:woo: :woo: :woo: :woo: :woo: I am afraid even to turn off the computer, though i have other things more important to attend.:woo: :woo:

Sorry about that. I will shortly upload them.

Can i just reinstall the windows? Will then my bitdefender remain valid? If I format the C drive, then the bitdefender would be removed? if i install bitdefender with the same key code will it work then?

  • In case BitDefender is installed on your C partition (this is the default install partition, but it can be changed during installation), it will completely be removed. Otherwise, it will be removed only partly, but the remains will be totally useless.

So, basically, YES, you will lose BitDefender if you reinstall Windows.

But you can reinstall BitDefender after that, and you can register (and activate) it with the same key that you had. That key will be valid for the remaining license period.

Thanks for the advice, I will reinstall xp then.

The virus shows as somazina@gmail.com program. Please record this virus into your database and make an antidote. My father brought this virus from Bangkok, Thailand via a pendrive.

See my attached file for details. By the way, your forum doesn't allow picture attachments.

    /applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=4028" data-fileid="4028" rel="">Virus_information.doc

  • The forum does allow image attachments, as JPG files. It doesn't allow BMP files, because they are too large and take bandwidth and storage space for no good reason.

Also, this malware cannot be signed without a sample. If you have an infected file, please put it in an archive (ZIP) with the password infected and attach it to your next post. It will be analyzed and signature will be added.
