Bitdefender Total Security automatically scans all external drives on startup

Bitdefender Total Security automatically scans all external drives on startup! This wasn't the case until now; before the external drives were only scanned when I specifically designated them to be. Now they always start to scan them automatically at startup.

I have double-checked that all of my scan settings are properly set not to do this.

I followed Bitdefender's general instruction to uninstall and reinstall the app to correct minor problems which didn't help.

Any ideas?
