Why Is there no functioning download link to BDAV Plus @ BD Central?!?!

Why does BD make it so difficult to download BitDefender AV Plus?

  1. The BD AV Plus download "link" (see screen shot attached) on BD Central downloads BD Total Security NOT BD Anti-Virus Plus!!
  2. If I go to Security Dashboard>"Install Bitdefender Products" link there is NO download link for BD AV Plus (only Total Security, Premium VPN and Secure Pass!!
  3. I have 5 BitDefender Anti-Virus Plus licenses and have only used 2!!
  4. Why is the only working download link for BD AV Plus require a purchase when I already have 3 more open licenses (see "bitdefender.com/en-us/consumer/antivirus").
  5. Why, every time I want to add BD AV Plus to a device (with unused licenses available), do I have to spend 30 minutes trying to find a third party working download link because the vendor (BD) makes it so difficult to download the product (BD AV Plus) I paid for??
  6. Why, when I click on the "Install" button on BD Central "Subscriptions" page and click on "Protect Other Devices" (to send a download link to another device) is there no email sent to the email address of the other device I want to install BD AV Plus on??

    AND…. why does Bitdefender use the term "Bitdefender Security" to include BD AV Plus, when they ALSO sell a DIFFERENT product named "Bitdefender Total Security"?? Why not refer to Bitdefender Anti-virus Plus as "Bitdefender Antivirus" (or something similar) rather than using the confusing "catchall" term "Bitdefender Security"??

    AND…. why does the Bitdefender Support Center Page>"Select a product to view step-by-step solutions and answers to frequently asked questions" not have ANY link to BD AV Plus?

    Hello @tmk40126

    You've been here with Bitdefender since 2010 and know your way around, so I may not have the answers your looking for, but…

    If you go the the support options there is a drop down for Antivirus Plus.

    If you go into your Central account and tick on My Subscriptions, you will have the choice to individually install the app versions ala carte.

    If you choose the install on a My Devices, from my past experience Bitdefender will install the greater version you may have a subscription for, in my case it would install Total instead of AV Plus. That can be the confusing part, you have to tick the right category, My Subscriptions, to install the version of Bitdefender you're looking to install.

    I didn't see your screenshot you mentioned in your first post, could you re-submit it, please?

    Otherwise, Alexandru will need to follow-up with your other concerns.

    Thanks Scott… really appreciate you taking the time to respond. However, the link at:

    (Apparently for BD AV Plus) actually links to/installs BD Total Security NOT AV Plus! (I have now installed and had to uninstall BD Total Security FOUR times - all from following links on various BD pages that are supposed to point to BD AV Plus…. very confusing!

    I'm not sure what's going on, as when I installed AV Plus on that PC about 2 months ago, it did work for me, and didn't install the Total version which I also have a subscription for. I do have this gripe about how Bitdefender installs things, is that it doesn't show you what version it's installing, just a generic "installing Bitdefender Security", so no one knows for sure until they may get the surprise at the end of the install (like has happened to me in the past) that Total was installed and not AV Plus.

    Part of that issue is it's the same installer for all 3 versions, AV Plus, Internet security and Total, and just unpacks the version with the license associated with it and thus won't show the version it's installing until the end. The installer download is the same size, no matter what version you download to install.

    Again, sorry friend, as hopefully Alex will chime in.

    After hours of messing with this, Bitdefender Escalated Tech Support person "Vlad" says that BD AV Plus and BD Total Security ARE THE SAME SOFTWARE!! Only difference is that when you pay (more) for "Total Security" you get access to additional functions (which are supposedly greyed out with installs of the less expensive AV Plus). Ridiculously confusing as EVERY download link to AV Plus on BD's website downloads what appears to be (and is listed as - in Win 10/11 Control Panel>Programs and Features list of installed apps shows the install as "Total Security" not BD AV Plus (which is what the links say they are to! What a pathetic waste of my time!

    But the UI does show Antivirus Plus, correct?

    Here's what I have on Windows 10, in Apps and Control Panel.

    If yours is showing something other than that, you may need to do a clean total uninstall, including deleting all the previous installers, cleaning out the temp and %temp% files and deleting the hidden files the uninstall tool leaves behind. If needed, or wanted, I can follow-up with more specifics.

    Hi Scott… The issue was finally escalated to live (tel) BD Tech Support and the tech did something (remotely) that changed the UI name on the computer from "Bitdefender Total Security" to "Bitdefender Ant-virus Plus". Not sure what was done or how, but miraculously, the (same) install that showed on the computer as Total Security (BOTH in the UI and in Win10 - Control Panel>Programs and Features list of installed programs) now shows as AV Plus - with no new install. Good magic trick!

  • For the record, there is only one install kit and the product is later reconfigured according to the subscription type at the time of registration. If any issues arise during installation (errors, incorrect subscription type, stuck with TS, etc.), the Support teams can help, and you did well to contact them. You'll just have to provide the exact details plus a screenshot of what's being displayed on your end, and any issues pertaining to your subscription will be resolved swiftly. 😉
