Windows wants UAC enabled to restore system apps

I researched the topic of temporarily disabling Bitdefender for testing purposes, and I found that it's basically impossible. My problem is, some stock apps, more specifically Microsoft Store, Calculator and Calendar failed to launch after a Windows update. This is a known issue, it's not just me. Most troubleshooting guides suggest some steps (e.g. running wsreset and entering various powershell commands) that need UAC and Windows Defender running. Currently they are disabled because replaced by Bitdefender.

Any suggestions to fix this? The last resort is a clean reinstall of Windows, which I'd like to avoid. What I need is just some clue if it's really impossible to disable Bitdefender just for the duration of troubleshooting. Thanks!

  • Hello,

If the below procedure doesn't help, I think it's best to uninstall Bitdefender altogether, do the troubleshooting, then reinstall the security software. Surely, it's better and much faster than reinstalling Windows from scratch..

  • Thanks for the tip. I was considering to uninstall Bitdefender but I don't know how to back up all my settings. I don't want to go all the trouble training the firewall again and reproduce the current configuration.

For the time being, I gave it up, I just installed a third-party calculator and will reinstall Windows some day, it's low prio.

  • You're welcome.

Yeah, that's the thing, you can't backup its settings, so you'll have to start from scratch when reinstalling..
