Bitdefender total security missing a process in taskmanager issue

Hi everyone,
On one of my windows 10 laptops I had only 12 bitdefender processes running, I then rebooted and now I have 13 processes running while there are supposed to be 14 bitdefender processes.
One of the "bduserhost.exe" processes is missing (only 3 are running), on my other windows PC's I have the normal 14 processes running which 4 of them are the "bduserhost.exe".
The bitdefender total security does seem to run normal on this device with the missing process, everything is turned on and bitdefender shows green.
Is this normal or is this an issue?

Hello.
My specs:
OS Windows 10 Pro 22H2 x64 With Latest Windows Updates Installed
OS Build 19045.5796
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19061.1000.0
BD Total Security 27.0.49.254
BD SecurePass 1.1.19 On Google Chrome 135.0.7049.115 x64
BD SecurePass 1.1.19 On Microsoft Edge 135.0.3179.98 x64
BD SecurePass 1.1.22 On Mozilla Firefox 137.0.2 x64
This is how my task manager looks, while Bitdefender is idle (no updating of Bitdefender, no scanning with Bitdefender, etc.) and only Google Chrome is running:
NOTE: I don't use VPN and Anti-Tracker.
Regards.

Hi @Gjoksi
I see you have 3 "bitdefender redline update" processes running, I only have 2 running on both my windows 10 laptop that has the 14 bitdefender processes running and the one that has one missing with only 13 running.
I guess this might differ from system to system? Or is this a bug of some sort?

Hi,
On a windows 10 educational desktop I have 15 processes running with an extra process "bdtbnmh.exe", I don't have this process on my other PC's.

bduserhost.exe instances are launched depending on the settings/options/product installed. For example, if vulnerability monitoring is not enabled, the bduserhost instance with command line
"C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender Security\bduserhost.exe" "settings/userprocesses/configs/bdwfagplg_config.json"
is not launched (the wf from the argument means wifi).
Other instances refers to Video & Audio Protection (…coreaudio.json), OneClick optimizer (..oneclickagent_config.json) etc.
I'm not 1000% sure, but if no audio device is detected or the audio protection is not enabled, for example, the bduserhost.exe instance for audio protection is stopped as well.Overall, if no crashes or unwanted behavior arises, it is normal to have different number of running bduserhost instances on different systems if the options differ. Of course, this does not exclude a possible bug, but, to determine that, we need to know the command line of running instances on both machines to check what instance is not running, and from there to check also what settings are different, if any.

Hi @camarie
I only noticed this since the latest version 27.49.0.254, before this version there where always 4 "bduserhost.exe" processes running.
I have this also on a second windows 10 desktop, only 3 "bduserhost.exe" are running also version 27.49.0.254 but everything is on and appears to be running normal.

Can you look in task manager, add the Command Line column, and specify the command lines of the running bduserhost.exe running? The important part is the ending, as in
"settings/userprocesses/configs/
bdwfagplg_config
.json"That's the information that tells what type of instances are running (and what it does not).

Hi @camarie
The "settings/userprocesses/configs/bdwfagplg_config.json" is running in one of the "bduserhost".
I checked with my other PC that has 4 instances of the "bduserhost.exe" running and this one has "settings/userprocesses/configs/coreaudio_config.json" running as the 4th one that's the missing process on the other PC that only has the 3 "bduserhost.exe" running.

So it's the coreaudio_config not running. Can you detail a little about the settings from Privacy, specifically Video & Audio Protection, as well as if there are audio/video devices active on that machine?

Edit:
Can you also post a picture of the "Instellingen" tab to see the settings, please?Sorry, I saw now the picture. Then I assume for now the corresponding bduserhost process is either failing for some reason, or does not start. We would try to replicate this on our tests environments and we'll get back to you.

That is good to hear. But we will try to check this nonetheless.

I am not aware of a change regarding this. There can be many things that might make this specific instance to not start. As I said, I filed an issue, at least to check if we have a repro.
