Is Bitdefender blocking Windows Updates downloding?

These are the fixes I have tried so far:

1. Windows Update Troubleshooter

- windows update, does nothing

2. Fix issues by reinstalling the current version of Windows

Windows 11, version 23H2 (repair version)

In place upgrade

- Can't download it.

- I tried the ISO for 24H2_English

"Your files, apps, and settings can't be kept because you've chosen to install windows 11 using a different language than you're currently using."

Damn, that's because I'm in France and haven't learned francaise yet.

So what to do, download in French?

I downloaded the ISO, mounted it, and ran it.

Nope, samo sameo... couldn't get USA either...

3. Can't get Windows updates to download

- cmd, run as Admin and enter these:

- sfc /scannow

- Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

- no change

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

4. BITS Run Background Intelligent Transfer Service in sys troubleshoot-others

-security settings have changed - it reset security settings 11/05/2025

-Service registration is missing or corrupt

5. Turn off Bitwarden

I turned off practically everything, still no joy.

Restarted and Bitwarden auto turned on.

Scanned, System is Clean

6. Reddit

Hi,

I think the best way to find out would be to uninstall Bitdefender, then install the update, then reinstall the software and the next time this happens, try to disable the security modules in Bitdefender one by one, to find out which one might interfere with the Windows update. I think this would be a place to start, if we assume that the antivirus is the cause.

If you still encounter this issue with Bitdefender uninstalled from the device or disabled, then obviously the root cause lies somewhere else.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks, I went through hell figuring this out. It wasn't BD.

Luckily the windows forum has a ChatGPT now. I spent a day with it and it was an awesome experience.
We eventually solved the problem stemming from the use of a numerical pin that gets hungup somewhere along the line. Anyway, no solution worked and in the end I reinstalled Win and lost all my apps and a lot of files.
