I got an email (attached) where the scammer sent me an email using my own email. I am looking to members of the community to share guidelines how to eliminate this threat once for all. I am active user of Bitdefender on my PC.
Kindly support.
This is a sextortion email scam where they send you a threatening email, sometimes with public or breached information (not in this case), without really having “breached” your security. It is just a hoax, bluffing, or empty-threat email.
If you paste the text into Bitdefender Scamio, it'll tell you that it is so. If you can look into the original email header (Gmail desktop browser: … > Show original; Outlook desktop browser: … > View > View message details), you'd usually see it failing DKIM, DMARC, and SPF checks. On Gmail, this typically gets put in the Spam folder; I've never seen it outside. It's probably the same on Outlook as well.
Because of how emails work, you can't eliminate these spoofed emails completely. However, you can mostly ignore emails put in Spam folders, especially these scammy-looking emails.
