Does Bitdefender Free protect me against RATs as they can be quite sneaky and we would never know if it's in the system.

As far as I know, the free version is perfectly capable of detecting and cleaning RAT malware once it's on the disk or tries to execute, but the paid tiers add prevention at the network/traffic level and extra hardening.
