bit defender updates software to 90% then doesn't continue.

When I cancel it the whole program shuts down, including the Firewall. I need to reboot to get it back and when I do there is a report of a critical error -2147024636. I'm on version 27.0.49.254. This only happens when I update the program, not just a regular update. The program update stops at 90%.

Hi,

Are you using a 3rd party firewall? If yes, try adding *.bitdefender.net and *.bitdefender.com to the firewall's exclusions list.

If the instructions from Step 1 didn't help, uninstall the Bitdefender program using the Uninstall Tool:

It will completely remove the program.
Next, reinstall Bitdefender from your Bitdefender Central account and see if the issue has been solved, as reinstalling the program usually solves the issues.

First, take screenshot(s) of the issue
and create a log file on your Windows device using Bitdefender Support Tool, by following these steps:

Next, contact Bitdefender Consumer Support by e-mail:

with short description of the issue.
After that, you will get an automated reply by the Bitdefender Customer Care Team, with your ticket number.
Now, in reply to that automated reply, you can send the screenshot(s) you already took and the log file you already created in the first step.
Since you are all done, just wait for the support engineers to investigate your issue and find a solution to fix the issue.
Remember that the screenshot(s) and the log file will help a lot to the support engineers for better and faster investigation on your issue and finding a solution.
NOTE: If the log file is larger than 25MB, you can upload the log file here:

After the upload is done, you will get a notification with the file's URL and then you can share the file's URL with the Bitdefender Consumer Support.

Hi,

That appears to be an error related to a Bitdefender update indeed.. Reading the available information, I'm unsure if this is caused by the operating system, or other apps thay may run on that device. But for the record, I think it can be caused by the antivirus as well, in conjunction with what else is running there. For what it's worth, a check is made after reboot, to establish if all files that were downloaded from the install directory have been replaced successfully.

Now, what you can do is to check if there are any files with the .upd extension in the install dir., maybe if we know the files we can draw a conclusion and advise further. Check what's in the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Bitdefender, the value named DownloadedFiles (if it exists). This may require further investigation by the technical Support teams, so before contacting them, you can run the Support Tool by following the steps described here:

NOTE: Logs collected with this tool should be made in "Try to reproduce" mode, but start "Try to reproduce" before rebooting the machine.

State your contact reason / choose request category, then choose from the available contact channels, chat, phone and email/ticket. Chat would be the fastest way to reach them.

After upgrading to Windows 11, I no longer have any issues with updating Bit Defender.
