[open]bitdefender 2008 Error

Options

Hello, I'm using Bitdefender Internet Security 2008 for about a year now. While it has been working perfectly so far, in the last week i started having a problem with being able to update it, each time i try to update it the program gets an error, failing the update. I have tried to manually install the latest updates shown in Bitdefender's site for my anti-virus but they seem to sort no effect, since my anti-virus keeps recognizing the update status as not actualized.

If someone could help me understand how to overcome this problem i would be thankful.

  • as theres a newer version of BD IS, version 2009, i'd suggest to download this version, uninstall version 2008 & use this tool http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

    reboot and install version 2009

  • I'm sorry if i am being dense here, but when you say to download the Bitdefender IS 2009 version, does that mean i can do it for free since i already got the 2008 one? or is it implying i should buy it?

  • sorry, i should've mentioned, for free, just use the same serial number you have for version 2008, i am near positive that you can upgrade your product to the updated version. EG; 2008 > 2009

  • Enethros:

Yes you can install BDIS 2009 and use the same registration key until it expires. Remove 2008 with the special BD remover software tool, use it twice to make sure. It is called "BitDefender_Uninstall_Tool.exe"

I did this and the ver 2009 did accept the old key.

Be warned however that quite a few users are having many problems with 2009 and have gone back to BDIS 2008. I am one of these users who cannot get 2009 to work properly. I use Win XP / SP3.

Go ahead and try 2009 but make sure you keep the installer for 2008 handy, you may need it.

Going back to 2008 is done the same way.

  • Hi Enethros,

I am from Vietnam, I have the same problem with yours. My BD Internet Security 2008 could not get any update since 5 Dec '08. I have contacted BD for technical supports and also sent them some log files for information and analysis. Till now, no response from them yet and I am still waiting for their possible solutions! :((

I re-installed my BD, but the problem is still there. I do not know if it is due to confliction with other software or virus infection? :D

    Rsenic,

There is no update process done, both automatic and manual update (error: incorrect server). Re-installing BD IS 2008 resulted the same problem. I then purchased a CD of BD IS 2009, but it could not be installed (I uninstalled BD2008 several times by running BD's removal tool downloaded from its website).

The error received during the installation: The file ‘RegInfo.ui’ cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file ‘bdprof.cab.AE3C3951_7A91_4185_B6E7_BA9F78BFE365’. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package

I then again contacted BD live support and being instructed to download the other install file from here: http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...ty_2009_32b.exe --> the same problem appeared.

It has been taking me more than one week struggling with BD's problem, keeping contacting BD support continuously as well as searching in this forum to find the possible solutions to my problems. I wondered why BD's technical engineers took so long to find a solution and no feedback from them. Is it so difficult? They have many queries/ analysis to do? Eventually, I found that many users of BD have the same problems as mine.

Do we need to have such troubles?<img class=" />

Get a refund and look for a different program. Bit defender doesnt deserve your money or anyone elses. Their product is crap and their tech support is non-exsistant. For their level of quality, all of their services should be free.
