Icon in system tray shortly greyed out on startup since last product update

Hello,

I recently installed a product update for my Bitdefender Internet Security Edition, which stopped the AV briefly and restarted it during the installation (as usual).

I restarted Windows shortly after and immediately saw that the Bitdefender icon in the system tray is greyed out on startup for a short time (10 seconds or so). It then stays red and active until the next Windows restart.

I ran a full scan just to be sure, which came clean.

I never experienced this behavior. Should I be worried ?

@Guidame were you able to fix Bitdefender behaviour by reinstalling?

I seem to be experiencing the same bug after updating to the newest version (27.0.55.298). Whenever I start Windows (not only after a restart) the Bitdefender tray icon starts without the little plane symbol. It then becomes grey until finally turning normal after around 30 seconds. During this time the Bitdefender status widget will say something along the lines of "Services are not responding". The Bitdefender icon says the same thing on hover when it is grey. Sometimes all desktop icons will be reloaded during the time Bitdefender needs to start correctly.

Out of curiosity, @Guidame, do you also use a laptop with Windows 11? And if so, did your battery icon also switch from the new icon to the old one? Because this happened to me after getting the new update. It may just be coincidence but I did not change anything else on the system and did not get a Windows update before installing the new version.

Bitdefender has had a similar bug for a couple of months now that only seemed to show itself when starting Windows when the laptop was not plugged into power. Since my device is always plugged in anyways this was no problem. It happens on every start now though. I am hesitant to reinstall Bitdefender because that always seems to bring more trouble with it than before but I guess this might be my only option.

Does anyone else experience this? Is there anything we can do? Because I have experienced this behaviour on a rather fresh system. Even if a reinstallation fixes it it may just come back a couple days or weeks later.

I reinstalled BitDefender and I still have this issue.

I'm effectively using a laptop with Windows 11. The icon stays gray for just a few seconds (unlike what is said in the french post) and I do not experience any " icon flashes " during this time. Nothing particular with the battery icon either, the new one doesn't go away.

When I hover my mouse on the gray icon, I get the message " Bitdefender services are not responding ", and when I try to open it, Bitdefender says I'm not logged in with my account, as if I don't have any license. The issue resolves itself a few seconds later and everything is ok since the next Windows true restart.

We are investigating this issue right now. The system is protected, as also reported in Windows Security Center.

I didn't see this earlier, but my desktop icons flash one time very (very) briefly on startup, just like @Loosh said, but I may not be related to BitDefender.
The flash coincides with the time that the system tray icon is greyed out anyway.
