I started a system scan this afternoon and left. When I came back, I had a blue screen wanting a BitLocker code. I've never seen this happen before. Any idea what's going on?
Hi,
The blue screen asking for a BitLocker recovery key usually means that Windows detected a change in the system’s boot or security state and, as a precaution, locked the drive until you confirm it’s you. This is not typically caused directly by a system scan or the antivirus itself. Common triggers include a Windows update installed and changed boot components, modified BIOS/UEFI settings, firmware update, disk structure or bootloader altered or flagged, or even a possible crash that occurred during scanning and Windows interpreted it as a potential tampering event. BitLocker is built into Windows and activates automatically on many modern systems.
You'll just have to find your BitLocker key and this is usually saved automatically to your Microsoft account.
From another device, go to:
https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey
Sign in with the Microsoft account you use on that PC. You should see:
The recovery key The device name The Key ID (which should match what’s shown on your blue screen)
Enter that 48-digit key on the PC.
