We need VPN install OPTION!

As one searches the BitDefender community forum one finds countless more posts about frustration with the BitDefender VPN than posts of praise.

Most users are just frustrated it has been shoved down their throats so to speak, and struggle to uninstall it.

Some users on the forum even call the VPN malware at this point, given how it is installed without permission or user request, and is very hard to remove, on purpose.

Bitdefender staff have argued this is just providing a great free service to users that otherwise may not even know about it. However, without even going into the VPN product strengths or weaknesses, no one should be forced into any service they have not approved or asked to have installed on their machines.

This mess can all be solved with a simple checkbox at Antivirus install, which will make the VPN a user selectable option. This will cater to anyone that wants or does not want it so no one is left out.

The VPN install checkbox can even be pre-selected (enabled) by default, as long as the ability to uncheck it remains, as that would cover all scenarios and use cases.

Please implement this before more people switch AV services just to get away from your VPN.

I can understand the frustration. Many users prefer having the choice to install only the components they actually need, especially on work devices where keeping systems lightweight is important.

In my experience, optional modules usually lead to a better user experience because different users have different requirements. For example, in business environments, teams often deploy cloud-based tools for attendance, leave management, and payroll processing, but they still want control over which additional applications are installed on employee devices.

We've seen a similar approach with payroll software in Pakistan, where organizations increasingly prefer platforms that let them enable only the features they need instead of installing everything by default. Solutions such as Vertex-HCM follow this trend because flexibility reduces unnecessary software overhead and simplifies IT management.

Giving users the option to choose what gets installed generally leads to fewer complaints and a smoother overall experience.

I can understand the reasoning behind this. However, with the new Bitdefender app that will be released soon, I think that's unlikely to happen, as the platform was already designed and it's basically ready. Bitdefender App is a cross-platform hub that unifies all Bitdefender services into a single interface. With this, there will be a Services panel that contains all active security features and additional Bitdefender services available with the subscription. The VPN will be part of the integrated services within this platform. This means that it will be possible to connect and change VPN servers, and access advanced VPN settings within this hub, but there will be a split between Security and the VPN.
So you can use it or not, but it will be displayed there in the new Bitdefender.

Interesting excuse, but this is not about the interface of the AV, Application or the back-end.
This is about the installer itself which can have it's source code modified to provide a VPN checkbox option in 20 minutes.
