[Feature Request] Dedicated Bitdefender Ad-Blocker Browser Extension / Enhanced Anti-Tracker

evansonhakeem

Hi Bitdefender Team and Community,

I am writing to propose a feature request regarding browser privacy and ad blocking. While Bitdefender Anti-Tracker does a great job blocking trackers and telemetry, users still need to rely on third-party extensions (like uBlock Origin or AdGuard) to handle intrusive ads, pop-ups, and banner elements.

I agree this would be a useful addition. Bitdefender Anti-Tracker already handles tracking well, so having stronger built-in ad blocking would make the browsing experience more complete. It would also be helpful if users could choose between basic ad blocking and stricter filtering, depending on their preference

With Chrome and Chromium browsers shifting heavily toward Manifest V3, having a Bitdefender-backed, lightweight ad-blocking engine ready for modern browsers would give Bitdefender users peace of mind.

Unfortunately, the major providers of this specific service struggle to keep up with ad blocking, trackers, etc. I think an affiliation is necessary. Many people rely on UBlock Origin (or Ublock Origin Lite). I use Ghostery (which has improved a lot lately) and I'm very happy with it.

I agree with @Nunzio77 The embedded browser ad blocker/anti tracker in Brave (Aggressively block), or the ability to use Firefox with the uBlock Origin extension, as well as the Ghostery and AdGuard extensions/apps are still going to be the best options for use along with BD Anti-Tracker, IMO.

I'd rather BD focus on being lightweight and stable and what it's already doing well, than introducing more to their maintenance plate than what other apps and extensions have been doing and maintaining for years, successfully.

+1. Agree. There are quite a few tools out there already that are pretty good. I need BD to continue doing what it has been doing well—keeping its primary product updated and ahead of hackers trying to get into our systems. I've been using UBlock and Ghostery BD Anti-tracker with Brave and it works for my needs. I understand that everyone has their own needs/requirements.

I agree. This is a sick idea. I already have the MBAM extension, but I think a BD extension could complement it very nicely.

Hello,

Bitdefender does offer Ad-blocker and Anti-tracker capabilities, with the ad-blocker available in the VPN app.
These features work together if toggled on as long as you are browsing with an active Bitdefender VPN connection.

NOTE: Like the informative pop-up shows, browser requests will be captured by the established Anti-tracker available in the Bitdefender security suite, while ad-blocking capabilities are offered by the actual VPN.

But I hear you regarding a standalone ad-blocker extension, and following this post here, the idea has been automatically forwarded to the Bitdefender developers for analysis.

If you ask me, I think there could be an opportunity to develop something like this, however, a generic Bitdefender ad blocker would enter an already mature, concentrated, mostly-free category of similar services that are available for a long time now. I think a stronger use case would be for a more differentiated safe browsing + anti-scam + malvertising + tracking + ad blocking extension, not simply a basic ad-blocker. So, it has to make sense to develop something like this outside the one that's already available within the VPN app, keeping in mind the existing options out there.
