PC Takeover using Zoom meeting link

Question

A few months back I was asked to join a zoom meeting.  It was a hack, they now keep taking over my computer and ordering items on amazon with saved credit cards (which i have removed now) but they keep taking over my computer and it gives me a screen saying it is a windows scan… which it is not.  How do I get rid of this… I have Bitdefender now but still seems as if they are still getting key strokes and they just attempted to get into my amazon account, but could not get anything….. I have used GeekSquad and no help ….. HELP

Hello @PamL and I am sorry this happened to you,

This could be either a simple compromise (a one-time event) or a full compromise (an active infostealer), and you can respond differently—from resetting devices and accounts to resetting only accounts and clearing your browser cache and history. It would help if you provided more details:

* What do you see that makes you think your computer has been taken over, besides the “Windows scan” and your Amazon activity?

* Are your other accounts (especially your email account) compromised?

* Have you tried clearing the cache and data in your browsers and disabling all your extensions?

* Have you done a full scan using Bitdefender?

Were you able to run a Bitdefender System Scan?

If you haven't already, try running a Rescue Environment scan in Bitdefender. Since it sounds like your system is being actively controlled, a standard scan while Windows is running may not catch everything. Bitdefender’s Rescue Environment reboots your PC into an isolated mode to clean stubborn threats and keyloggers.

Important Note on Accounts: Do not log into accounts or change passwords on this computer while it is compromised. However, you should use a separate, clean device (like your smartphone) to change critical passwords (Amazon, banking, email), log out of all active sessions, and enable 2FA right away.

If Rescue Environment doesn't resolve the issue, a full Windows Reset may be the next step. Because malware is involved, you must choose the option to Remove everything (the "Keep my files" option is not safe here, as malware can persist in your user folders). I hope you have recent offline/air-gapped backups of your important files.

To Reset Windows:

Go to Settings > System > Recovery > Reset PC (or Update & Security > Recovery on Windows 10).

Select "Remove everything"

Select "Cloud download" (this pulls a fresh, untampered copy of Windows directly from Microsoft).
