Bitdefender Threat Scanner - Problem
Hi,
Have BitDefender 2008 on three machines (3PC for 1 Year license). One of the machines has started to get a "disk full" error, and I've found the problem to be that the "BitDefender Threat Scanner" (D:\Program Files\Common Files\BitDefender\BitDefender Threat Scanner) folder is 9.19GB's.
The main dates that there were large downloads were on the 6th and 8th December, there is 222MB's, on the 11th, 346MB's. After that, there is a massive increase. For example, on the 25th, it downloaded 700MB's.
Also, to note, it's not downloading large files, but rather creating folders, and putting 30MB's into each folder. Although 30MB's doesn't seem much, when the folder gets to 9GB's, it's a bit serious. On another machine, the total of the "BitDefender Threat Scanner" is only 91MB's.
Within the latest folder, "av32bit_9639" there is a sub directory called "Plugins", and a file called "plugins.htm". Here's the listing of the "Plugins" directory. It's the same in the other 312 folders.

I have seen this issue before but not quite know what is causing it. the product is designed to delete the older update folder, when a new one is created, and only leave the last 2 ones. to manually solve the issue, you can delete all the 'av32bit_******' except the last 2 ones. but this is just a temporary fix as the updates will keep coming. also, you could try to upgrade for free to the 2009 version of the same product.

ou could try to upgrade for free to the 2009 version of the same product.
Aye, tech support told me the same. Well, it was more like "here's my problem", and a response "upgrade" Classic fob, tbh.0 -
i know it might be frustrating, but this is a rare issue and I don't know how to manually fix it. as I told you before, the product is designed to delete all the update folders, except the last 2 ones, after a product update. but, in your case, it certainly doesn't do that, so the product did not install correctly. you can also reload the 2008 product but I don't think that it will help

I have the same problem and i am using the 2009 version. Also, the directory is aproximately 30gb(!!!) which is too much for a 80gb hard disk!!! Is there any solution??

Please see the Hard Drive Filling Up On It's Own... thread.
I contacted BitDefender Support right before Christmas 2008 about this problem and after some mailing forth and back they acknowledged the problem 13th of January 2009. The problem has not been solved yet.
I post regularly in the thread by 'guy' I link to above, keeping people informed if the problem has been fixed or not. As of today, 14th of February 2009 the problem has not been fixed yet even though I would call it a major bug as it renders BitDefender unstable, causes the computer to freeze while booting etc. How to get around the problem until a fix has been released can be found in the thread I link to.0
