Bitdefender Scan Stalls When Scanning For Rootkits

Hi...just got BitDefender (2009) and installed it on my wife's computer. Everything seemed to work fine during the first system scan until it got to "scanning for rootkits". It appears that the scan is continuing (the little animated progress circle is continuing to spin), but there doesn't seem to be any progress -- it has stayed in this mode (scanning for rootkits) for hours -- and during this time, the number of scanned items has not increased.

So far, the scan has taken over 5 1/2 hours -- and the computer it is scanning has only one small hard drive (about 40 GB). Any help would be much appreciated. I got so frustrated with Symantec's products that I decided to try something else -- I hope this product won't be as frustrating...

I observed such issue while i was using BD antivirus together with Sunbelt Firewall.The rootkit scan was stalling exactly as you described.

Remove any other security software and clean the remainings properly.

ARRRGH. I do have Sunbelt Firewall -- it's a great little firewall. I did a thorough removal of Symantec files, but I would really like BD to work with Sunbelt (there was no warning about this on the BD site that I could see). <img class= " />

I liked the older version (previous one that was working properly as freeware, opposed to the actual one that always reminds you that its freeware <img class= " /> ) , but this new Sunbelt creates this problem.I observed the issue even from the Sunbelt Firewall beta stage(july-august 2008) and reported it towards one of the Sunbelt stuff and here on BD forum, in the romanian section.No one did nothing about the issue and you are in luck i knew the problem .Use another firewall like PC Tools 5 free (last time i tested, it worked with BD 2008 and BD 2009 without problems and its light and easy to use) ,Comodo ,Jetico or Online Armor.This free firewalls ,at this moment ,are even better.
