No Icon In System Tray

i am running windows xp service pack 3 and bitdefender total security 2009 has never displayed the icon in the system tray. it's driving me mad. i have read the other threads on this but none of the solutions offered have worked. everything seems to be riunning ok it's just having the reassurance of wseeing the icon. anyone know how to fix this?
