Scan Failed To Execute

  • You may have to wait a long time. I have several tickets and submitted files but they don't reply and don't send a fix. All I read in this thread is "we've created a ticket for you" as a pacifier. I ran the mentioned patches and that helped some, but BD 20090 is still not executing scheduled scans.

    Have you tried http://www.bitdefender.com/site/KnowledgeBase/getSupport/

I've tried both patches, re-installing, applied a patch from the admins here from rapidshare & STILL NOTHING!!! I'm getting Quite ###### off. If this keeps happening I'm going to have to get my money back & give these guys the worst review EVER, like in history ever! <img class=" />

  • Hi, we have downloaded the patch to fix the problem, but did not fix problem, also tried to go to start, programs etc not abe to do a manual scan, can u please help

    Hello Bitdefender

If you google "Scan failed to Execute" your site is the first 6 hits.

The number of people affected is more then then 1000 if not way more.

And yet you haven't found a working fix this this problem. Why is that ? You have released a bugged version whiteout finding this massive error ?

I'm an old Bitdefender 10 customer and had this installed on 6 PC's, 2 of my own, 2 at my parents and 2 at a friends.

After installing Bitdefender 2009 Internet Security only 1 / 5 Pc's worked the first time.

Now thats a very very bad ratio !

So i tried everything you had posted on this forum, nothing worked. Seams to me your guessing , not knowing where to look for the problem.

I fixed it on 3 more Pc's....how ? I formated them and reinstalled Windows on them. First thing before installing Windows SP3, was installing BitDefender 2009 , and guess what ? It worked.

But formating your PC to run Bitdefender ?

You have some research to do, and its now been what ? 5 months and you still haven't found a fix ? Can we get our cash refunded for a none working product, sold as one of the best total security solution's out there, that cant scan for anything .

Give me back Bitdefender 10 that worked!

Greetings from the 1000 or more customers that bought a none working product :-(

    Thank you .

Because the error seems intermittent - meaning it will work for a while after it is patched and then die - I won't be able to respond now until the error reappears as I put the patch on yesterday and it is once again working OK for the time being. I will follow up once the error rears its head again.

  • Hello Lamron333 ,

We have responded to your email . Please reply if you have any other questions .

    Thank you .

Still not working, what now, I just get my money back or what?

  • I also have this problem. Apparently the scan hasn't worked for 23 days. I just noticed b/c usually it runs by itself at 3am. I have bitdefender on 2 computers and one is working fine, but this one is not. "Error. Scan failed to execute" .... this is all I get, over and over again.

After about 30 seconds the following message will pop up "The scanning process was not started in the required time interval. Press OK to close the Bitdefender Antivirus Scanner."

In basic view I don't even get that; I get nothing. Like I clicked on an empty void.

    Please help!

  • I've been using BitDefender for several years - first 2008 then upgrade to 2009. Have had frequent crashes of BD - "critical error" messages - "please submit dumped files" etc which I've done with the request for technical assistance. No tech assistance has been forthcoming. I'm hoping that this forum will provide some of that assistance.

The 1st issue relates to the "scan failed to .." error. I've installed the (in)famous "patch" to correct this but the problem keeps recurring from time to time - again fixed by re-installing the "patch" each time. The problem keeps recurring from computer to 'puter. Does a PERMANENT fix exist for this problem?

The 2nd issue relates now "vulnerability check disabled" which the "fix now" won't fix. What's the solution to this please?

Look forward to some tech advise through this forum.

    thanks,

    Arthur

  • I have been having the same problem for at least a week. At first my Vulnerability scan was turned off and I couldn't turn it back on (fix this issue button did nothing at all). Then I found that I was unable to run scans. I've sent multiple requests to tech support but they haven't responded.

  • Just posting that log files in windows vista (home premium) can be found at:

    c:\program data\bitdefender\desktop\profiles\logs\

These are .xml files that can be opened with "notepad"

I have the same problem and I;m running XP 64. I cannot scan anything manual or automatic. THis has been going on for a least a month now. I've tried numerous times to contact bitdefender. But I have to say, they have not replied to a single ticket. I've asked for them to respond and nothing. anyone getting this same kind of treatment? I've asked for my money back and of course, no response. Any advice guys on how to either get this to work or my money back?

Thanks for your help. I've got her working now.

As Alex said to do, I uninstalled Bitdefender, Malwarebytes, Spybot , SUPERAntiSpyware, and disabled Windows Defender . After I reinstalled BitDefender everything is running smoothly.

    :D

  • I have tried both of the patches posted on your website. I still get a message that the scanning process was not started in the required time interval, and I am forced to close the AntiVirus scanner.

  • Thanks for all guys. I've got it working now. Uninstalled Bitdefender, Malwarebytes, Spybot , SUPERAntiSpyware, and disabled Windows Defender.

    And then reinstall BitDefender.

    Thanks~~

  • Is it possible to uninstall BitDefender 2009 and reinstall BitDefender 2008? I had no problems with 2008, whereas 2009 has been a nightmare. Automatic Scans will not work, it does not check emails like it is supposed to, and I cannot get rid of that damned scanner box. I just upgraded to 2009 about three weeks ago, and renewed my subscription for another year. Can I get my money back and move on to another product?

  • I seem to be having the same problem as everyone else. BitDefender will not execute the scheduled scan. I see the Fix It issue pop up but I cannot execute it from there either. Also, I cannot execute it from the Windows Start Menu either. Is there a patch I should look into acquiring? Thanks.

    Hello TheHeartless ,

Please try performing the steps described in the next BitDefender article:http://kb.bitdefender.com/KB547-en--What-t...ot-working.html and look if you have the same scanning issues .

  • bit defender total security 2009

On the dashboard there is a critical warning there is one issue "fix this issue"

There is 1 pending issue "fix this issue"

    Security warning Critical warning

The last system scan you started was stopped before it was finished When I click on Fix it does nothing.

I downloaded the online bitdefender scanner, and it failed to load all definitions.

It asked me if I wanted to scan anyway and I clicked yes. Then got a notice SCAN FAILED!

Could not check the computer for viruses.

  • Hello gandalf4460 ,

Please download and run the following patch :http://www.bitdefender.com/files/Knowledge...av32bit_X86.exe . Before you run it , if you have Windows Vista make sure to disable User Account Control . In order to do this open Control Panel, then go to User Accounts, click on Disable or Enable User Account Control and uncheck the UAC box. After you run the patch , update BitDefender then try to run a scan and let us know if is working .

    Thank you .

I guarantee I WILL NEVER purchase bit defender again!

  • Hello TomasJ ,

For start make sure to disable the User Account Control option from Vista . You need to open Control Panel, then go to User Accounts, click on Disable or Enable User Account Control and uncheck the UAC box. Reboot your system after that .

Now , open BitDefender and go to Advanced View . Click on Antivirus , then click on the Virus Scan tab . Here , if do not see anything listed under System Tasks(Deep System Scan , Full System Scan , ....) we recommend you to download and run the following patch : http://www.bitdefender.com/files/Knowledge...ystem_32bit.exe .

If you see the BitDefender system tasks listed but when you try to perform a scan you receive the message : "Scan Failed to Execute" please download and run the following patch : http://www.bitdefender.com/files/Knowledge...av32bit_X86.exe .

    Thank you.

Alex in fairness to existing users of BD, and potential future users, you have a responsibility to tell us what progress is being made to resolve the ongoing scan problems that many of us are having to live with. At the moment, your Company is offering nothing more than a work around. I confess having decided to try BD after many years with another interbet security provider, I am losing faith in your Company's ability to resolve these incompatability issues. I would be very pleased if you could prove to me that I am wrong.

    Thank you.

  • Hello Lexden ,

A major update that will fix this issues , is programmed to be released in the first half of August . Until then , please use the existing BitDefender patches in order to solve this sittuation.

    Thank you .

  • Can I get that patch too? I can't scan manual nor scheduled.

  • I’ve had the error of “Scan Failed To Execute”, and have found the cause on my system. I’m using WinXP SP3 Danish language edition, which is the problem. BitDefender Internet Security 2009 installs into the default shared file folder of “Fælles filer” on the Danish language edition. The “æ” appears to be causing the problems.

When I copy the BitDefender files from “Fælles filer” to a new folder called “Shared files” and also change all BitDefender registry settings under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->BitDefender to the new shared folder, scanning works again (this needs to be done in safe mode).

To find out if this could be the problem on your system, you can start regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->BitDefender. If “BitDefender Scan Server” has a non-English language character in its data, for instance the Danish “æ”, this could be the cause of your problem.

I have already informed BitDefender customer support about this. They said that they knew about this problem already, and that they are working on it… According to the customer service representative, I should expect the problem to be solved in the 2010 versions.

  • I'm having the same problem with the scheduled scan not working and it won't allow me to manually run any kind of scan either. I noticed the problem last Saturday when the scheduled scan did not start and I was not able to run one manually. I've been trying to fix this ever since but without any success. I've tried doing the patch provided 3 separate times but without any change whatsoever.

I'm using 32 bit Windows XP with all SPs and updates.

A virus scanner that doesn't scan is just...useless.

  • I have Windows Vista Home premium 32 bit. I can do all scans manually and the scheduled scans work on schedule except the Deep System Scan. I just press the scan now button, but I'd like to know if there is something wrong with just that one item.

  • Without any help (or even acknowledgment of my posting of a problem with your program) and after trying your patches (I even tried the one for when you don't see any options out of desperation) without any luck, I had no choice but to uninstall and reinstall BitDefender. That did fix the scans not working problem, at least for now, BUT now I am back to the problem I was having when I first installed your program, namely that it constantly deselects whatever I'm working on (like typing in this Window, my screen saver when it's up, etc.) Now, I can't use the aquarium screen saver I purchased because it minimizes, leaving my screen unprotected when I'm away from my computer since the screen saver is technically running it won't run again, but it's minimized so it's not really performing its intended function. It's also inconvenient and annoying to have it deselecting other things I'm working on. And since this problem has now returned, I can only assume that the problem with the scans not working will return as well, especially given other people saying that it returned for them.

I am terribly unhappy with BitDefender at this point! This program is supposed to make my computer more secure, not require constant babysitting and cause disruptions. Does anyone even care about the ongoing problems users are having?

  • My reply was: Being as I didn't receive a reply to my post, should I consider uninstalling/reinstalling BitDefender 2009? Some have done that and were successful, some weren't. Or, do I wait for a "fix" as I can do the Deep System Scan manually?

    EXACTLY.

Is it possible for us to get a refund somehow??! I know I can buy a cheaper, more effective, & less time-consuming program easily. So dissatisfied with the sheer mind-numbing agony that is assosiated by the performance of this program. Grrr...!!!

    Same trouble here!!!!!

System scans do not work at all(no error message, nothing, they don't even show up under System tasks).

Did all the troubleshooting but no success.

Everything works fine once the UAC is turned off.

I went ahead and uninstalled BITDEFENDER TS 2009, and currently using Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.

Support desk, please fix this issue as soon as possible, so that I could reinstall BD, else refund my money.

  • Diana Bele's instructions from March 26, 2009, Post #36 worked for me.

I'm running XP SP3, English, 32 bit; product was BDTS 2009 (upgraded from 2008).

In particular, none of the patches in this post nor on Support Download Documents worked.

What did work was the uninstall tool and then the reinstall tool, Step 5 below.

I entered my 2008 BDTS license key. I was able to run manual scans just fine.

In a few days I'll try the scheduled scans.

Good luck with your problem. Your mileage may vary...

The patch that we tested at the beginning of this thread will only work in some cases when a certain file called "tasks_system.xml" was corrupted and this is the reason why the scan wasn't running. Unfortunately this scenario does not apply in all the cases when the error message "Scan failed to execute" is generated.

I have conceived a checklist that you can use in order to go through some basic troubleshooting steps if you have the error message "Scan failed to execute" when trying to launch a scan from the dashboard:

    1. Go to BitDefender -> Advanced View -> Antivirus -> Virus Scan. Check in order to see if you have "Deep system scan", "Full system scan" and so on listed there. If not, please proceed to step 4 in this list. If you have them listed there, click on one of scans and select "Scan Now";

    2. If you receive the "Scan failed to execute" error message please open the Task Manager and look for the process called "uiscan.exe". If you don't have it there please go to the next step;

    3. Go to Start - Programs - BitDefender 2009 - BitDefender Manual Scan. Please try to see if you can launch the scan like this. If the scan doesn't launch this way proceed to step 5. If the scan launches using this method please Stop the scan and go to the next step.

    4. Boot the PC in Safe Mode and run the patch available here then restart in normal Windows mode. Now try the steps listed at step 1 and see if you can run the scan. If not, please proceed to the next step.

    5. Uninstall BitDefender using this removal tool then restart the system. Now download the latest kit available for your product using one the following links:

    Antivirus 32bits 64bits

    Internet Security 32bits 64bits

    Total Security 32bits 64bits

After reinstalling and restarting check in order to see if you can run a scan. If the scan still returns that error message then further troubleshooting will be needed in order to determine if there is a conflict on the system that is causing this situation.
