Bitdefender Prevents Windows Update
I have just purchased BitDefender Total Security 2009 and I am very disappointed.
Several tests says that this is the best firewall anti virus anti malware protection package out there. But since installing it, my windows update wont install. It keeps restarting after installing, trying to install the same file over and over again.
I have tried manually to allow the system32 exe files for the update in BitDefender, but this doesn't work either.
My system is WinXP sp3
I have no unistalled BitDefender to get vital windows updates.
Anyone with a clue how to make BitDefender work with Windows?

Hello DepravedParrot,
Could you give some details about what happens when you try to update? Is it, by any chance, about a MSXML 4.0 update, or it affects any updates?
Also, how do you update Windows, by letting it automatically download and install updates, or you use manual update (from Start -> All Programs -> Windows update)?

Hello,
There have been some problems with this update from Microsoft. I am still not 100% sure that it's the direct fault of BitDefender products, because the same problems about this update appeared on many other systems which never had any BD product installed.
The problem was also widely discussed on MSDN forums, here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en...6-800f38f9b2f5/
You have 2 options here: either try the workaround presented on MSDN forums.
Either try to download the offline installer for MSXML 4.0 SP3, which was released at the end of March (9 days ago), and try to install it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

Hi
wuauclt.exe and wupdmgr.exe are the programmes that windows update uses. You will find them in the system 32 subfolder of the windows folder. The windows would update fine, if you let them to connect to the Internet, on your firewall.
