Total Security 2009 Update Errors
I just got Bitdefender total security 2009. However I'm unable to get automatic updates.
I get the error message "HTTP 404 error has occured". I was reading other forum posts and I changed the primary server to http://upgrade1.bitdefender.com. Don't know if I typed URL here correctly, but you get the idea.
I also tried numbers 2 and 3 and I got minor results by getting the new signatures. However the hourly update says there is still a product update to get.
I don't know if I'm on a proxy because I'm in Iraq and the service they provide here is in another building. I'm also currently using the latest Firefox as my browser.
Also I have another question. Manual updates work fine, however I noticed in another topic that the manual updates are only posted weekly on Friday. Doesn't that contradict Bitdefender getting new updates each hour? I mean, can't the updates be sent to the manual update page around the same time that the automatic updates get pushed down to the software?

The error message that you received during the update is usually a temporary one - please try to update again and see if you receive the same error. If yes, try to see if you can ping "upgrade.bitdefender.com" and also give us the output of the "nslookup upgrade.bitdefender.com" command.
Also, the manual updates are released weekly because they contain a collection of signature updates that need to be packaged in a certain format to be delivered - this is not done automatically like we do with the updates posted on the main update server.0 -
I tried pinging that address and it was unable to reach it. upgrade1.bitdefender.com as well as upgrade 2 and 3 had similar results
The results of nslookup however could reach upgrade 2 and 3.
Also thank you for the info about the manual updates.0 -
Please try to access "upgrade.bitdefender.com" not "upgrade1.bitdefender.com".
Also please post here the results of the nslookup command for "upgrade.bitdefender.com".0 -
Hello theK,
Please also post the result of this command:tracert upgrade.bitdefender.com >C:\trace.txt
Wait for the trace to complete and then copy the results from C:\trace.txt
To check for your proxy settings in Firefox, go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Connection settings

Sorry about my rather late replies.
For whatever reason, everything is fine now. I've been receiving updates regularly and all seems well.
Thanks for your support.0
