I have the same problem, this is ridiculous, I have to restart my machine like every hour for this icon to turn red again. What's up with BD's contact number, I've been calling all day and knowone answers. I will never buy this crap again.

  • First, please check in the Task Manager if the process called "vsserv.exe" is running in the background and check how many threads does it have.

Also, please tell me what other security solutions are you running on the system together with BitDefender.

i have the same problem there is no vsserv.exe running and no other security maybe norton is the way forward???? ha ha

I dont see any process running by that name. and BitDefender the only antivirus on my computer.

  • I have the same problem and I have spent hours now reading trying to find out what the problem is . Support is useless . Hope someone finds the problem and posts a solution

  • I checked my task manager and vsserv.exe is running . I have no idea how you find how many threads it has . But does this mean something ????? I am using windows xp on my lap top and it is acting up . My lap top has the same bitdefender and uses vista and its fine . Which is even more frustrating

  • Hi there,

I have the same problem of BitDefender Internet Security 2009 stopping working in the way described above. The icon goes grey and it says "BitDefender Services are not responding" (screendump attached). I am running Vista Home premium, and bought and downloaded BitDefender for the first time a few weeks ago. Previously, I was using AVG Free, COMODO Firewall and Windows Defender. Since installing BitDefender I have uninstalled the first two, and disabled Windows Defender. I checked as mentioned above and vserv.exe is not running.

I can't see any messages from administrators helping anyone with this issue. Please could you look into this and let me know if you have idea what the problem is? I can provide you with more information on my system if you tell me how to get it. I bought BitDefender in good faith that it would be a secure security product, but is it unsatisfactory that it frequently stops responding, leaving my computer open to viruses.

    Thanks,

    Aldous

  • do not blame other antivirus!!thats what i said,,whay Delete my Comment??

    this problem with every 1

Freedom of expression!!Forget that with bitdefender

  • I've posted twice elsewhere, but will jump in here as Diana has posted.

My vsserv.exe is indeed still running in task manager despite the grey icon and the "Services not responding message". It has 55 threads.

In answer to your other question Diana I am running threatfire alongside Bitdefender - no problems with it for a few days before the error. I uninstalled and reinstalled and got the same problem again.

If it helps any both times my BD went grey and stopped responding I had put it into game mode. Probably coincidence, but you never know.

    Cheers

  • I'm having the same problem.... When I first start Vista, I'm able to click the destop icon for Total Security and I get the screen... but soon I get the VSSERV message. Seeing as it's the 3 PC version I bought, and installed them on all 3 of my PC's I checked the other 2 and no problem what so ever there.

If I check the services by running SERVICES.MSC through the run box I notice that it says the service is indeed started, but I cannot stop it. I have no idea how to check how many threads it has...

I'm not running any other software, and having heard that some malicious software can stop your defences from working this is kinda scaring my to no end.

Is there any ETA as to a fix or update to help this ?

PS : I have noticed that my PC (quad 6600) has been running rather slow lately.

  • i took care of this problem by deleting this defective program of my computer. Its ok i dont want my money back looks like you guys can you see it in your R&D department. Im using the free avast antivirus and im not having problems with it.

I have the exact same problem, this seems to have been going on for others for a few weeks. No fix as of yet?

  • This has been going on for a such a long long long time!!!!

On 2 out of my three machines it has stopped being a problem so BD must have fixed some bugs.

I suspect it is a bug in the authority code used to turn services on and off during automatic updates.

On my main PC though I had to resort to turning off the firewall (who needs it any way .. most people are behind a router firewall anyway).

Supports suggestions to uninstall and reinstall is a joke (I told them I had done this over 20 times).

They obviously don't read the form posts or they would know that at this rate the company will go belly up and they won't have a job.

I have never encountered so many frustrating bugs in a piece of commercial software which is sad because because it doesn't kill my machines

like Symantec, Trend or McAffees. I trialed Vipre and it seems perfect (very low resource usage) so once my license expires

I going to delete this sad joke of a program and move on.

  • Hi

problems with BD could happen if you have run a patch to extend the trial period of BD!

Could you install it again? Just remove it from BD's own uninstall tool available at http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall, and then you could install.

    Hemanth

  • I've had this problem recently and it has manifested as a freezing pc lately.....numerous times. Very disgusted with BD....

  • This issue started happening with a recent built update for BitDefender. In order to see what update files did not install correctly we will need to have a look at some reports generated on the systems where this issue is occurring. Thus I have created a support ticket for everybody who reported encountering this issue and they will receive an e-mail shortly.

  • Thanks Having same problems on all 3 PC`s

  • @kingonsa

I sent you that e-mail as well - please have a look at it when you have the time.

    Diana,

I will try to get this info but I'm not really sure if it will show up in this dump since I have to reset the pc to get it to work again.

  • I'm having the same problem running it(total security 2009) on windows xp sp2, and the problem apparently started when I enabled game mode.

I installed BD after i removed a downadup infection using bdremoval tool which had shut off my older av. The worst part is that the bit defender icon is grayed out and i'm not sure if my computer is protected.

    Assistance will be appreciated

    Hi YouChrisYap

the problems with BD like in this thread happen (services won't respond) , if some files go missing!

Files go missing if the system restore is not properly done, if you have used a registry cleaner or by some other way!

The best way to bring BD back to work is by reinstalling!

CAN BD TEAM "PLEASE" DO SOMETHING THAT BD COULD FIND THE MISSING FILES AND INSTALLATION ERRORS, AND REPAIR THEM AUTOMATICALLY?

    Hemanth

  • @hemanth, not to be rude or anything, but I'm quite frustrated here and the suggestions that you are giving are already tried out. We've reinstalled the AV and everything, I for one never restored anything on my system. Its something in the newest update that caused the problem

I'd be glad if someone from the BD team responds.

    Hi YouChrisYap

could you run sfc/scannow and see if the system files are fine?

    Hemanth

  • I get this problem all the time if I get a Windows Update in WinXP to any of the .NET frameworks. I think this problem occurs more often than not if you have .NET 3.5 framework installed.

  • sorry for replying late

im disappointed to say that my bd now is not running again(same prob) after i updated it...

i have a Registry Mechanic in my laptop, does it affect bd?

  • hnyaji
    edited April 2009

    Hi YouChrisYap

Yes, Registry Mechanic deleted some keys of BD from your registry. I had Registry Mechanic, but don't use it any more! You could report this problem to Registry Mechanic.

If you are looking for a good registry error correction software, try Tune-up Utilities. This does not have any problems with BD.

Bitdefender Services Are Not responding ..... getting tired of looking for fix for vista starter and ultimate which are both giving me the same run around. Best thing I could have done was download the removel tool and install NOD32.

I feel that I have wasted money on a 3 license version.

The error message "Services not responding" can have multiple causes, in order to make sure that we correctly identify the reason why this message comes up we need to treat each report individually.

chunks, hadyhosny, mgu, frosti, tütücaca, cosmic_nomad

I have created support tickets for all of you in our database and sent you some diagnostic tools for the system. Please reply to the e-mails that you have received attaching the reports

In case anybody else encounters this error message with BitDefender I would recommend contacting support and attaching the reports generated by the diagnostic tools available in the following article - you have a link in the bottom part of the article on how to contact support:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/site/KnowledgeBase/consumer/#389

I have removed bitdefender from all computers on the home network.

I will no longer be using the "BitDefender Product"

I will therefore be unable to help trouble shooting the "BitDefender Product"

    Thanking you

  • I tried to read the whole article but there is no specific way to solve the problem and I'm beginning to be ###### off. I got this problem about months ago, I did uninstall and reinstall it again and again, it seemed to work at that time, but suddenly, yesterday this problem occurred again and well, this "reinstall method" does not work anymore. Whatever !! I just leave the grey icon like that forever but the thing is after using my laptop a while I couldn't connect to the internet, likes there is a wall blocks my network: I logged out my MSN messenger then couldn't log in again ??-(, I opened the IE and couldn't go to any website (connecting....blah blah blah), then I had to restart my laptop, and then ok here it goes again: ~~ BD service is not responding ~~ gray icon ~~ after using a while ~> lost internet connection ~> restart...

Can someone tell me wtf is going on? I'm at the limit of my patient. "contact support" <<< what the ###### is this? I went to that website, chose blah blah blah and blah blah blah, but to be honest, is there anything on that site related to the problem here, correct me if I'm wrong.

If I don't get an answer from this, I'm not gonna use BD product ever again, and if someone needs my BD license, I will be glad to give it. I don't pay my money to get more problem like this.

  • I want to add my name to the list of disappointed costumers, It is not only the services not responding but at the same time they lock the CPU usage at 100%, I sadly read this problem has been going on for days and no clue or resolution has been provided yet. I wonder if should I ask for a refund and switch to Norton?

I suggest we all contact BD tech support. The more contacts the more they are likely to look into this.

    https://myaccount.bitdefender.com/site/Know...eBase/consumer/

You will be asked to download and create a couple of files and a screen shot. But the most important thing is to click "No, I want to contact support" and send them an email. Send one every day and be nice. When I worked in customer support we liked nothing more than ignoring people who were flaming us.

    Problem Solved in my case!!

I use a registry cleaner (CCleaner) and always back up my registry before running it. It had removed Bitdefender entries that were needed. Once I restored the registry my Bitdefender worked fine.

  • @adkr

I am using CCleaner myself. Would it be affecting my PC as well? I'll reinstall Bitdefender IS 2009 (I uninstall it) and see how it goes. Thanks for letting us know.

What cleaner are you planning to use?
